Sorry for the lack of posts in the last few days! We have not been home much at all since Wednesday and when I have been home, I have been baking. I am very excited about doing a cake decorating class at the middle school tomorrow and have been busy this weekend getting ready for that. Lots of frosting to make for 33 eighth graders to decorate with. :-) It will be so much fun!

You will have to forgive me but without too much time (have to leave in about 20 minutes again), I haven't even had time to look through the Sunday paper yet. I am going to post the deals here from what I have read on other sites. I will do my shopping on Tuesday and if there is anything that didn't work, I will post it! If you find an amazing deal that I am not mentioning, please post a comment at the bottom of the post or email with your find. Thank you!

I am going to work on the Jewel info tonight or tomorrow morning for the upcoming cat deal so I will have that info up soon.

Mashup Mom reports that people are having trouble with the Fav 4 deal at Jewel. I have copied and pasted a list here from her blog with the working UPC's and UPC's that are definitely not working from her readers and Couponers Wanted. Thanks Rachel!

UPCs that have worked for people, from your comments/email and from Couponers Wanted — these are the first 6 digits

Walmart has a ConAgra coupon booklet you can sign up for at: http://instoresnow.walmart.com/enhancedrendercontent_ektid82202.aspx You may not get it in time to use for this ConAgra deal coming up but for next time....

Today's Smart Source has a coupon for a FREE bag of Purina Pro Plan at Petsmart in it! The coupon does say it's a mfg. coupon and redeemable only at Petsmart but I wonder if Jewel would take it since it's a mfg. coupon? Hmmm.... I will ask my friend who is a front end manager and let you know. I don't even know if they carry this dog food but there could be a shortage at Petsmart so it might be another place to find it.

Please check out www.hip2save.com for the full Walgreen's & CVS's deals this week! Collin has it all laid out beautifully. Thanks Collin - I love your site!

Again, thanks for bearing with me for the lack of posts and I promise, it will get back to normal Tuesday! :-)

Happy Shopping!

***Recipe Correction***

I made an error when I typed the recipe for the Enchilada sauce on Tuesday! I used a TEASPOON not a tablespoon of Sofrito. Really, a tablespoon won't hurt though - it will just give it more flavor! :-) I don't really measure, but it was more around a teaspoon.

I have changed the recipe in the post so if you have copied it or printed it, please change that amount. Sorry about that!

Jewel

Jewel's ad looks pretty good - there is no mention of the ConAgra deal because it's supposed to start on Sunday but it probably won't be in the ad until next Thursday. It is not CONFIRMED that it will work on Sunday but I will let you know as soon as I do. They do have a lot of the ConAgra products in there already but not really any of the other manufacturers included in this cat deal so we shall see..............

There are some in-ad manufacturer coupons which can be used anywhere because they are manufacturer coupons, but they also can not be used with another manufacturer coupon because although they have the Jewel pricing on them, they are not Jewel store coupons.

$1.00/2 Ragu pasta sauce
$1.00/2 Hellmann’s mayonnaise
$1.00/2 Skippy Peanut Butter
$1.00/2 Breyer’s ice cream
$1.00/1 Neutrogena product
$1.00/2 Bertolli pasta sauce
$1.00/2 I Can’t Believe it’s not Butter
$1.00/2 Lipton tea
$1.00/2 Suave hand and body lotion, Q-tips, or Vaseline lotion
$1.00/1 Bertolli frozen meal
$1.00/2 Wish-bone
$1.00/2 Klondike
$1.00/2 Suave shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, or body wash

Quaker deal

This is a good deal! Buy 5 participating products and they are $1.39 each. The products included are Quaker Life cereal, Quaker Oatmeal Squares, Chewy Granola Bars, Chewy Granola Dips, Quaker Instant Oatmeal, Oatmeal to Go, and regular Quaker Oats.

Butera's ad this week has a manufacturer coupon on the front page - $3.00/5! You can use this and make your items $.79 each!
There are coupons in the 1/3RP, 1/24RP, http://www.redplum.com/ or print $1.00 coupon here: http://www.quakeroats.com/DollarOffCouponBanner/default.aspx

Fav 4 deal

Yay! Fav 4 is back!! If you don’t know why I am excited, I will give you a little rundown of how this deal works. Of course there is a chance that they change the deal and it doesn’t work this way.

It’s advertised as 4 packages of meat for $19.99 – you buy 4 and you get an instant $4.10 savings after the 4th package is rung up. Well, if you buy the smaller packs of the same type of meat that are in the deal, the savings comes off. Anything that is in the Fav 4 case or has a Fav 4 sticker will be priced higher so look for those same meats (same UPC code) but in smaller packages and the $4.10 will be deducted. If you buy 8 packages, another $4.10 will come off and so on and so on……….

You know I always have some type of warning with any deal you are working not the advertised way!

First, if the discount doesn’t come off, either just take them or just have them take the meat off your order right then and there. I usually go through the self check with the meat because there are no coupons and I can see the discount right away.
Second, I have read about people going to the butcher and asking them to wrap individual burgers, steaks, etc. Please do not do this! This is really NOT an ethical way of working the deal and we don’t want them to change the way it works. You are getting a good price working the deal by buying the smaller packages so don’t “push” it to get your meat even cheaper – it’s cheating.
You will find smaller packages of meat, I promise. Your best bet is to go early in the morning or late at night when they are putting more out but really, I have found them at all times of the day.

There is also a Fav 4 Deli deal - haven't worked the numbers on this one yet so I'll have to get back to you to let you know if it's a good deal or not.

Dole bananas - $.39/lb.
Grapes, buy 2lbs+ and get first lb free with in-store coupon.
Cook’s shank ham, $.69/lb.

Jewel

No list yet for the ConAgra deal coming up but on Couponers Wanted, they have posted a scan of this Thursday's ad and it looks GOOOOODDDDD!! Lots of the "normal" ConAgra deal products are in the ad too which means the deal is coming up. :-)

Some highlights of the ad:

Fav4 meat deal (I could use this because we have gone through almost all of our meat in the freezer this past month)

Bananas - $.39 lb!!

Quaker products - $1.39! Save those Quaker coupons if you haven't used them all

Keep checking back here, I will keep you posted and update as soon as I see any news on either the ConAgra deal or any other good Jewel deals this upcoming week!

Dinner

I have to tell you about our dinner tonight! On the menu was Mexican Lasagna so I start to gather my ingredients and realize that what I thought was enchilada sauce was not! So, normally, I would send Doug to Butera which is a couple of minutes away to get some. Well, with the whole Cooking from your Pantry Challenge - I couldn't do that soooooo I got online and found a recipe for Enchilada sauce. Let me tell you - I will never buy Enchilada Sauce again! It was super easy and really, really good! I have made a few recipes in the past and haven't really liked it as much as the canned one that I buy and it was way more work. Here is the recipe:

Enchilada Sauce

1 tbsp. olive oil

3 cloves garlic, minced (I used jarred minced garlic I always have on hand)

1 tsp. Sofrito (this is not in the original recipe but I added it because it's an excellent addition to any Spanish food - it comes in a jar and you can find it in the Spanish section of your grocery store. It adds a TON of great flavor to any food!)

1 tsp. minced onion

1/2 tsp. dried oregano (I used Mexican Oregano but regular would be just fine)

2 1/2 tsp chili powder

1/2 tsp dried basil

1/8 tsp ground black pepper (I used fresh ground)

1/8 tsp salt

1/4 tsp ground cumin

1 tsp dried parsley (didn't have any so I left it out)

1/4 cup salsa

2 - 8 oz cans of tomato sauce

1 1/2 cups water

Heat oil in a large saucepan over medium heat. Add garlic and Sofrito and saute for 1-2 minutes. Add onion, all of the spices, salsa and tomato sauce. Mix together and then stir in the water. Bring to a boil, reduce heat to low and simmer for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally.

So, I cooked up some 4 chicken breasts (cut in small pieces) in a pan with a bit of olive oil added some sauce (about 1/2 cup) and set it aside. I poured some sauce in the bottom of a 9" square baking pan. Dip the tortillas in the remaining sauce and layer in the pan (cut in half to fit if needed) add a layer of meat and top with cheese (I used shredded Mexican blend). Repeat the steps 3 times and then pour your remaining sauce over the cheese. Top with more cheese and bake at 350 degrees for 20-25 minutes. Super easy and it is delish!

I should have taken a picture because it was really pretty but I am not the best at remembering the picture taking (something that my friend Cindy scolds me for - sorry Cindy!) :-)

So, for tomorrow (Wednesday) we have decided to make things easy and throw some chicken, potatoes and Italian dressing in the crock-pot. We will have some veggies and rolls with it.

Thursday - Burgers, Ore-Ida fries, baked beans, pasta salad

Friday - Our schedules are all over the place so we are going to make some Bertolli Chicken Parmesan meals that I got a few weeks ago for nights just like this plus a salad! I was surprised, they are actually pretty good.

Saturday - Crazy schedule again and I have to decorate a birthday cake. We are going to just do leftovers or as I call it "fend for yourself night". :-)

So, week 4 seems to be going along just fine! Hope you guys are getting creative with your meals too.

Just saw this on Hip2Save and copied and pasted here. I just ordered some of these cute jackets! They are out of a lot of sizes in the men's so go to the site right now! :-)

Upcoming Cat deal

Just read on Couponers Wanted about an upcoming cat deal:

Spend $20 or more on participating Conagra foods, Georgia Pacific, General Mills, Dr. Pepper & Snapple between 1/31/10 and 2/14/10 and receive a coupon for $5 off you next shopping visit.

This is not as exciting as a $20/$10 deal but there should be some decent deals! They do not have a list yet but hoping to have one tomorrow. I will keep you posted!!

Thanks www.CouponersWanted.com!
I just read on Jill Cataldo's site that there is a new Catalina deal running at Meijer from 1/25-2/21.

Buy 3 packages Old El Paso Taco Shells, Dinner Kits, Seasoning, Refried Beans or Heat & Serve Side Dishes and get $1.00 off of your next beef or chicken purchase - buy 6 and get a $3.00 cat good off of your next beef or chicken purchase. I did this last year with the seasoning packets. It was reported that the seasoning packets are on sale through Wednesday, 1/27 for $.50 each so this would be a good deal! What I usually do is go through the self check-out and buy the Old El Paso items first then use the cat on the next order which is my beef or chicken! :-)

I'm going to try to go in the morning because we could use some refried beans and it would be nice to have something other than chicken or burgers which is what I have left in my freezer!

I have to tell you about dinner tonight - it was good! It was a recipe that you could easily use any leftover meat you have in the fridge and a few potatoes! Here is the recipe:

Turkey and Potato Pan Fry

2 tbsp olive oil
14 oz. turkey breast fillet, diced
3 tbsp butter
1 lb., 4 oz new potatoes, scrubbed and sliced
6 shallots, peeled and halved
1 large red pepper, seeded and chopped
1 tbsp fresh finely chopped chives

Heat half the oil in a large heavy-based frying pan and fry the turkey pieces for 4-5 minutes until browned all over. Remove with a slotted spoon and set aside.

Add rest of oil, butter, potatoes and shallots to the pan. Cover and cook over a medium heat for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the potatoes are almost tender.

Return the turkey to the pan and add the chopped red pepper. Season with salt and freshly ground black pepper and cook uncovered for 10 minutes, until the potatoes are golden and the turkey is cooked through. Serve garnished with finely chopped chives.

I diced the turkey breast and since it was already cooked, I just browned it in the pan, removed it and continued with the recipe as is.
I did not have new potatoes or shallots and since this is a cooking from the pantry challenge, I used a few russet potatoes and half of a large onion I had on hand.
Whenever I use peppers in recipes, I usually have some of it left over so I will vacuum seal it and toss it in the freezer for another day. I had green and yellow peppers in the freezer so I used those instead of the red.

This was super easy and everyone liked it. I would like it to have had a bit more color so I will probably add some red pepper and maybe some zucchini next time. We had some free Green Giant veggies and some almost free Pillsbury French rolls to round out the meal. This afternoon, Amanda made some Friendship bread muffins and we had those for dessert. Yummy night. :-)
I hope you guys try this recipe when you have some leftover meat and a few potatoes in your fridge.

Eating from the Pantry Challenge

This is the fourth week of our Eating from the Pantry Challenge. It is getting a little boring so the kids and I just spent about 45 minutes trying to come up with some new ideas. Well, we only have two so far! I will have to post the rest of the weeks menu tomorrow when we finish it.

Sunday - Doug is working, the kids and I weren't very hungry so we just had whatever leftovers were in the fridge. Used up some chicken, salad, potatoes so at least it won't be tossed! :-)

Monday - I made a turkey Friday night for Saturday's craziness but the day ended up being crazier than expected so we did not have time to eat it before running off to church. We stopped at Chili's on the way home with some friends. I know, I know! But....... we did do really good! They have this amazing $20 deal and it is a TON of food! We ended up getting a few for all of us and so Alex's and my total was only $20 - not too bad. Since I HAVE to use the turkey by tomorrow, we are going to make a Turkey and Potato Pan Fry that we found the recipe online for. Basically, it's turkey, potatoes, onions, peppers cooked in a pan with olive oil. We are going to make some French rolls that are in the freezer along with the last bag of FREE salad from Meijer we have. I will post the recipe for the turkey dish tomorrow. (I am trying to get to bed at a decent hour, which for me, is before 11:30!

Tuesday - We are going to make a Mexican Lasagna, rice and corn. The recipe is from RecipeZaar.com. Here is the link: http://www.recipezaar.com/Mexican-Lasagna-Made-With-Corn-Tortillas-192479
It is basically layered enchiladas! The changes that I make is that I cook my chicken and then add some taco seasoning (to taste) and a can of diced tomatoes. You could add chilis too but 3 out of 4 of us don't like them so we leave them out. I use sharp cheddar cheese in the center and then top it with Mexican blend cheese if I have it. I have made it in a 9"x13" by using 2 packs of tortillas and making a bit more chicken. If this looks familiar, you may have seen it on Jill Cataldo's site - I posted it last week on there too. Yes, I am Stampinmom on Jill's site. It's a really easy recipe and yummy!

As for the rest of the week, I will let you know as soon as we figure it out.................. I hope you guys are doing good with your Challenge and not getting too bored!

Happy Menu Making! :-) Have a great week everyone!

Walgreens

Ran to Walgreens this morning and here's what I got:

4 Benefiber Sticks (16ct) - $5.00 ea. = $20.00 - used 4 $2.00 coupons from http://www.benefiber.com/specialOffers/index.shtml (used 2 computers) & 1 $2 Wags coupon from the Diabetes and You magazine by the pharmacy which took off $8.00 = $4.00
1 Dulcolax - $10.00 - there are hang tags on these that have a $3.00 coupon and a $5.00 mail in rebate = $7.00.

So, my OOP for these was $11.00 and I received a $10.00RR for spending over $30.00 plus I will mail in the $5.00 rebate so $6.00 Money Maker!! I'm going to donate these to the pantry.

1 Sure Men's deodorant $1.50 with Wags ad coupon - used $1.50 coupon from 1/24SS = free

2 Pert Plus for Men $2.50 ea = $5.00 - used 2 - $1.50 coupons from 1/24SS. Received $2.00 RR so FREE!

My OOP was $15.82 and I received $12.00 in Register Rewards. I just realized as I am typing this though that I forgot to use the Wags ad coupon for the deodorant so I will have to go back and get my $1.50 credited to my Visa! Grrrr...... I hate when I do things like that! Oh well.

Here are some other good things I see in the ad:

Dr. Pepper, 7-Up, A&W, Sunkist, Canada Dry or Hawaiian Punch 2 liters are 2/$3 after RR
Maxwell House coffee is $1.99 - there is a $1/2 coupon in 12/13SS
DiGiorno pizzas are 2/$10 plus you get a free 2 liter of Coca-Cola wyb two. There are $1/2 coupons in the Game Day coupon booklet found at several grocery stores (has Ritz, Triscuit, Planters coupons in it)

J&J Floss or Reach toothbrush - $.99 with Wags ad coupon - use coupon in 10, 4RP, 10/18 or 1/3RP
The PepsiCo RR is still going on so you can get $10RR when you buy $20 in participating products.

Happy Shopping!

Lever 2000 bar soap - $.88 - probably the 2pk although it shows a picture of at least a 4 pack in the ad. Now, that would be a good deal if it's the 4 pack!

You can buy 3 - save $3, buy 6 - save $6, buy 9 - save $9 - check your receipt to be sure it all comes off though, sometimes when you stack these kinds of deals it's hard to see the savings come off when checking out.

Target

Doug is working, Amanda is at a church camp and so I was having a nice relaxing night with my son, Alex watching a movie and waiting for my turkey (for tomorrows late lunch/early dinner) to be done, when I remembered that I forgot to pay my Target credit card!! It was too late to make a payment online and so we ran to Target to make a payment. I can't believe I forgot - I always set it up so that it is days in advance. Well, it turned out to be ok because I got a few things. :-)

Faith Hill perfume sets are on clearance for $4.98, there is a $3.00 coupon here:
http://coupons.allyou.com/Couponweb/Offers.aspx?pid=14803&nid=10&zid=rd17 so they end up being $1.98!! I bought 3 of them to give to my sister and sister-in-law's for Mother's Day. Shhhh.... don't tell them! They were priced at $19.99 each and reduced a few times! They also have a few at $9.98 so hopefully those will come down soon.

Bought four Classico Pasta sauces - $1.99 each. Used BOGO coupon from 1/10SS plus a $2 Target cat coupon I got a while ago. So all four sauces for $1.98 - not bad!

2lb. bag Green Giant carrots - $2.49 - used $1 Target cat coupon = $1.49

2 Nivea body wash - $2.99 - used 2 - $2 coupons from 1/3RP and 2 - $1 Target coupons from www.target.com so I got them both for FREE!!

A lot of the sporting equipment, large games (ie: Foosball, basketball) are on clearance for 50% off. Alex bought a really nice dart board for $25 - he is very excited! Me, I'm not so sure about the holes in the bedroom wall that this will bring. He assures me he will not miss - ha! :-)

They have a lot on clearance on some of the end caps so check it out!

Week 3 confession

Ok, confession time - today we ordered in pizza! I have a headache and just didn't have the energy to cook tonight. We have a great little restaurant here in town called Fox Trail and on Sunday and Wednesday they offer half price pizza - it's a great deal. I ordered a medium thin pizza and a small stuffed pizza and it was $17.00. There is 1/2 of the stuffed crust and 1/4 of the thin left too. It was yummy! :-)

Woo Hoo!!

Alex needed printer ink to print a report for school tomorrow so we ran to Walgreens since I had some RR's and didn't get everything on my list yesterday. Here is my transaction:

1 - 100 ct. Lipton Tea bags - $2.99 - no coupon
4 - Planters nuts - $7.96 - used 2 $1/2 coupons from 12/13SS & 1 Wags coupon from the Diabetes & You booklet which deducted $4.00
2 - Puffs to go - $5.00 - used 2 - Buy 2 Vicks products, get 1 Puffs Free coupon from 12/27PG and 1 Wags coupon from the front page of the ad that deducted 2.00
1 - Accu-Chek monitor - $9.99 - this one I am donating - used 1 - up to $10 coupon from 11/8SS & $5 coupon from Diabetes & You booklet
1 - Sugar Free TheraFlu - $3.99 - used $2 printable or there is one in 12/6SS & $2.00 coupon from the Diabetes & You booklet
4 - DayQuil - $20.00 - used 4 - $2 coupons from 1/17PG
2 - Wet Ones - $4.00 - used 2 - $1.50 coupons from http://www.wetones.com/wo_couponregistration.asp
3 - Cow Tails (for Doug and to use as fillers) - $.87 - no coupons
1 - Nexcare Tape - $3.99 - no coupon - I didn't know Alex needed this until after we left, oh well.
1 - Printer Ink - $23.99

I used $10 in RR's so my OOP was $33.21 and I received $15.00 in RR's --- $10RR for the Nyquil deal, a $4RR for the TheraFlu/Lipton deal & $1RR for the Wet Ones deal! Not bad considering the ink alone was $24! Now, I am done with Walgreens for the week.

Happy Shopping!

Week 3 of Eating From the Pantry Challenge

This will be the third week of our challenge and it's going good! I am amazed at how much you actually save when you THINK about spending money before you do it. I know, I should have known this and really I did but just never wanted to know how much money we blew on eating out or unnecessary purchases. :-)

We have all made small changes and it's working. It's so cool to hear my kids say, "let's just go home and get something to eat so we don't spend any money". Wow, I wish I learned that as a teen, we would probably be better off financially right now. Today Amanda said, "we should do this every month not just January." I guess they are ok with it! :-)

In June, Doug and I will celebrate our 20th anniversary - I know!!! We were babies when we got married......... Anyway, I am going to try really hard for the next 6 months to save as much as possible and surprise him with a little get-a-way made possible by just putting away the "extra". Shhhh..... don't tell him!

Here is my menu for this week - it's a little late because I was off today and so it throws everything off!

Sun - no kids so instead of going out, Doug and I made burgers and potatoes for a late lunch then weren't hungry for dinner so we just snacked as we watched a movie.
Mon - lunch - ham & cheese panini's and Stacy's pita chips/ dinner - Shrimp Alfredo
Tues - Spaghetti, salad, garlic bread
Wed - baked chicken, pasta salad, onion straws (The Pioneer Woman's recipe), veggies
Thurs - Ham, baked potatoes, salad, veggies, french rolls
Fri - Pizza - either homemade or frozen depending on time, we have to drop Amanda off at church for camp.
Sat - Crazy day so making a turkey breast, corn casserole (need to use up some whipping cream), rolls, potatoes, veggies for a late lunch/early dinner

How are you guys doing??????

Today, I was baking! Since there is no school today, I do not have to work (one of the perks of working for a school district) and so I decided I was going to do some baking that I have been meaning to do.

One of my really good friends Kim, has 4 kids, 2 of the boys have medical issues. Nathan is 11 years old and has an Eosinophil disease. He is very restricted in what he is able to eat. He is not able to have any nuts, soy or wheat which is REALLY difficult! Most foods have these things in them! He is able to have soy letchin so at least chocolate is ok! :-) Andrew is 9 and has a Mitochondrial disease, he has been struggling with this for most of his 9 little years! One of his favorite things to eat is the lemon loaf from Starbucks. I have been looking for a recipe to try and make something similar and found one a few weeks ago. It is really good, the recipe is at the end of this post. I would NEVER make anything for the family without making something special for Nathan so that he can also enjoy a special treat, I made Candy Bar Shortbread. My friend Cindy has a food blog, http://www.theperfectplate.blogspot.com/ and posted these yesterday. As soon as I saw them, I thought they would be perfect for Nathan if I substituted the regular flour for rice flour! They are also really good! Thanks Cindy. I used chopped up Hershey bars (2 regular and 2 special dark) instead of the Toblerone for the chocolate on top. I am getting ready to go deliver my goodies to them, I hope they enjoy them!

If you would like any further information on either of the boys, you can go to http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/andrewstover.

Glazed Lemon Pound Cake
1 cup butter, softened
2 cups sugar
4 eggs
1 tablespoon grated lemon peel
3 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1 cup milk
Glaze
1/3 cup sugar
1/4 cup lemon juice (1 medium lemon)
2 tablespoons butter
Powdered sugar
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
In a large bowl, combine butter and sugar; beat until light and fluffy.
Add eggs 1 at a time, beating well after each addition.
Stir in lemon peel. Add flour, baking powder, salt, baking soda and milk; beat at low speed until smooth. (I put all dry ingredients in a bowl and alternated adding the dry ingredients with the milk)
Generously grease a 12-cup Bundt pan then spoon batter into pan.
Bake for 50-60 minutes or until toothpick inserted near center comes out clean. Cool 15 minutes. Invert cake onto serving plate and let cool completely.
Meanwhile, in a small non-aluminum saucepan, combine the sugar, lemon juice and butter. Heat over medium heat until butter melts, stirring occasionally. Pour into a bowl and let cool a bit (about 10 minutes). Add enough powdered sugar (I added about 3/4 cup) and mix to make a nice thick glaze! Pour over cooled cake. YUMMY!!!
Have you checked out Jill Cataldo's new blog??? Actually, it's not new, just revamped and it looks GREAT!!! Go check it out - www.jillcataldo.com

A few things.......

Went shopping today and did really well! I used Hip2Save's lists for CVS & Walgreens and here's what I got:

CVS

---2 12-pk Pepsi
---5 Stacy's Pita chips - used 4 mfg $1 coupons from inserts and 1 $1 coupon from CVS's Reinventing
Beauty magazine along with 4 CVS coupons I printed from http://www.cvs.com/!
---2 M&M's - used $1/2 mfg coupon from inserts
---1 Essence of Beauty body butter on clearance for $3.00 - used $2 CVS coupon from the Reinventing Beauty mag
---3 individual Coke's & 3 Extra gum - used 3 $1 mfg coupons picked up at Wags and 3 $.50 CVS coupons for the Coke. I should have done this last week when you got $1 back but I never made it there oh well.

I used $2.50 in ecb's - paid $21.69 OOP and got back $12.00 in ecb's!

Walgreens

4 Kraft Mac 'n Cheese - used Wags ad coupon & 1 Buy 3 Get 1 free coupon
2 Welchs grape jelly - used 2 $.55 mfg coupons
3 Maybelline mascaras - $3.47 each - used 3 $1 mfg. coupons and got back $3 RR
1 Revlon Double Twist mascara -- look for bonus packages that have two mascara's in them! Usually the bonus packs do not work for an RR but I decided to try it and it worked!!! So, I got 2 mascara's for free after the $5 Revlon coupon which I will use to get some other make up on sale - Jewel had a ton on clearance so I'm gonna check them out first! :-) - used $2 mfg coupon - free after the $5 Revlon coupon. By the way, the coupon is in the 12/13SS, not RP!
2 Neosporin lip health products - used 2- $3 IP mfg coupons - got $3RR - MM!
2 Wet Ones wipes - used 2- $1.50 IP mfg coupons - got $1RR - free!
2 Lindsay Olives - used 1 IP coupon and 1 Wags coupon from the Diabetes and You booklet
1 Soft soap clearance soap - filler to use an RR
Used $2.50 RR - paid $21.99 OOP and got $12 in RR's back!

Dominick's

I ran into Dominick's and bought 2 Pillsbury Toaster Strudel - Cream Cheese & Strawberry - $1.59 each. (This is the only one at this price for some reason!) - $3.18 total
*** go to http://www.cellfire.com/ and http://www.shortcuts.com/ and load your electronic coupons on your Dominick's card. It will take off $.55 for each Cellfire and Shortcuts. Use 2 coupons from the following link: http://bricks.coupons.com/Start.asp?tqnm=zaojbmm33167178&bt=vi&o=58542&ci=1&c=GM&p=cPprsOnQ and you will pay $.08 for both of them! The tag said 2/$5 but those did ring up at $1.59. Thanks to Mashup Mom for this deal!
I also got some bananas - $1.23, coleslaw mix -$1.69 and a 2lb. bag of carrots - $2.50 and used 2 - $1 off produce from a Oscar Mayer coupon booklet that I found over by the packaged lunch meat!
My OOP was $3.67 for all of it!

Then I stopped at the Super Target in Streamwood to check out their clearance - they have less at 75% than our store but still some good stuff - I got Alex a pair of dress pants and 2 pj pants for under $20! It's all hit or miss but worth checking out.

One thing I really want to mention is that I stopped at these stores on my way home from church and the tax rate for these stores in Hoffman Estates is 10%!!!! Wow! Here in South Elgin it's only 7.75% so it's just something to think about - I figured I lost some of my savings and my OOP would have been less at a lower tax rate. It's just something I never really thought about before and thought I would mention it.

Happy Shopping!

McNeil has issued a recall on many of their products, which include Tylenol, Motrin, Rolaids, Benedryl. Go to this link to find out if you have a product that has been recalled and if you do, what you are supposed to do:

http://www.mcneilproductrecall.com/

CVS/Walgreens

I don't have a lot of time tonight so I am going to direct you to http://www.hip2save.com/ for the CVS & Walgreens deals this week. Collin has done a great job and has all of the coupon links up there. Don't overlook the link for double CVS Extra Care bucks! It goes from 1/17/10-3/15/10 so you can really rack up those ecb's!

Happy Shopping!

Oh, thank you everyone who printed the Lance Cracker coupons and gave them to me! I was able to get 14 packages of crackers for the high school band trip for free!!! Yay! Thanks!

Friday, January 15, 2010

So you know how I said that I was going to skip Target this week? Well, I think I am not going to be able to honor that one! I ran there this morning to get a couple of kids winter coats to donate to a friend who is collecting them for a couple of schools that have a lot of underprivileged kids and they are coming to school in sweatshirts and windbreakers. So as I was flying through the store (I had about 10 minutes!) I saw a TON of clearance items. I know there were a lot of deeply discounted clothes, pj's boots, etc. so if you have a chance, go check it out!

Haiti

I couldn't let this day go by without mentioning the awful events in Haiti. My heart is so heavy for everyone in that country. I can't imagine what they are going through and how they will get through it, of course many will with the grace of God. I ask that you keep praying for the people of Haiti.

If you are going to donate to the cause, please be sure that the charity your money is going to, is a legitimate one. Unfortunately, there are people out there that prey on people with good hearts trying to help. The CNN website has a link to http://charitynavigator.org/, where you can see a list of charities and their ratings. The Red Cross website also has good information. They are in desperate need of financial help so if there is anything you can send, any amount that you have saved by stockpiling will help - NO amount is to large or small!

Blessings to your families - keep them near, hold them tight, give them an extra kiss, tell them you love them and thank God that you have been blessed to have them!

Meijer

There are some great deals at Meijer this week! I hate to say it because I usually have an issue of some sort when I go there for more than a couple of things and can't use the self check out! I am going to give it a shot tomorrow so, we'll see.................

I don't know how I missed it but Meijer (at least here in IL) has gone back to Thursday - Wednesday sales. This is good because that is how most grocery stores run and I didn't like it when they changed to Sunday - Saturday sales.

Here is what I have found in the ad this week:

They have a lot of items 10 for $10, get the 11th item free. I will list coupon matchups in the order of the ad pages. Some of these items have Meijer coupons so you can use both those and the manufacturer's coupons.

Stockpile

I have been asked many times what my stockpile looks like so I thought I would post some pictures of it. The quality is not the greatest since I took these pictures with my iPhone so I apologize for that. This is my food, cleaning supplies, paper goods stock pile. I keep all of our personal care items, toiletries, candles, etc. separately upstairs in our linen closets. Also the laundry supplies are kept in the laundry room. I will have to take pictures of those and show you another time.

The first picture is of the pantry in my kitchen. This is always very full and always has been. The next two pictures are of my large upright freezer. This holds A LOT!! You can see all of my Fav 4 chicken and burgers that my hubby vacuum sealed on the center shelf! The last four pictures are of the shelves in what the kids call the "bomb shelter" which is a room in my basement. Can you see the cereal - that is less than half of what I had a month ago before I started making everyone who came here take cereal with them! Before I started couponing to this degree, I would have this kitchen pantry completely full and then maybe 2 or 3 shelves downstairs. The freezer was usually well stocked but all of that would cost me lots more than what I am showing in these pictures plus my linen closets and laundry room combined!

I am not showing these to you to show off or to tell you that you have to have as much as me or even close but to show you that it is possible to stockpile a lot for very little. You stockpile whatever your family needs and will eat and what you have room for. You may not have a room where you can put all of your stuff but you can get creative with some of your closets, put shelves in the garage (unless you have a husband like mine that doesn't put ANYTHING in the garage except the cars and garbage cans!), bins under the beds, etc.
Happy Stockpiling! :-)

Tribune code - $.50/week!

The new code to get Sunday-only Chicago Tribune home delivery for .50/week is:

0aup

That's a zero, not a letter O. I know many people have been waiting for this one! Code's good for 26 weeks.

Thanks Jill Cataldo!

Target

Here are a few Target deals that I have put together from a few sites such as Hip2Save, Couponers Wanted, etc.

Go to www.coupons.com and print up the $2/1 coupons for several different Twentieth Century Fox movies. Lots of these are $5-9 at Target! Super good price for gifts or for your own entertainment! Print them quick because they probably won't last long.

4 pk - Yoplait YoPlus yogurtj or Yoplait Fiber One Yogurt are $1.50, use the $1 coupon from 1/3SS!

Some McCormick spices have been reported to be on clearance, you can use the coupon from 1/3RP

Electrasol Finish 20 ct box $3.59 - if you didn't use your $2.50 coupon from 1/3RP at Walgreens last week, use them here for a decent price!

Sobe Lifewater 10/$10, get a $5 Target gift card when you buy 10

Reach Floss .97, free after $1 coupon in 1/3RP

Rice a Roni is $.91 through 1/23, use the $1/3 coupon from 1/3RP

GE Reveal 4-pack 60 watt lightbulbs are $2.00 - use the $1.50 coupon from www.target.com and they will only be $0.50

3 pk Ivory Soap is $1.07, use the $1 coupon from 12/27 P&G for cheap soap!

Lots of toys and baby items on clearance too! I am going to skip Target this week since I am trying to stay out of the stores this week except for the REALLY good deals I just can't pass up! :-) If you come across anything good, let me know and I will post it!

Happy Shopping!

Potatoes

Oh, I have to tell you about the potatoes from The Pioneer Woman Cooks! cookbook. They were great! Rich, creamy, delicious! I will change it a bit and cut the rosemary in half next time - a bit too strong for our tastes but just cutting back some will be perfect! It did take a while to get it all together to put into the oven but they are worth it! You will have to do a few sit-ups afterwards though - :-)

I am quite surprised with myself this week! Yesterday when I went to make the chicken, I realized that I didn't have the can of Campbell's cheese soup I use in the recipe. Well, instead of sending Doug to Butera, I used some jarred cheese sauce that Doug had just opened that morning. It was perfect and didn't cost any extra. Then tonight, Amanda had 3 friends over and Alex had 1 friend over and of course I didn't have enough steak to feed everybody. I would normally run to the store and get more - well I didn't. I went to my freezer, took out pork chops and chicken and put them in water to defrost. We had a very nice dinner for no extra money!

Remember, keep emailing me your progress if you are doing the Eat from the Pantry Challenge!

Happy Shopping! (in your own pantry and freezer!)

Jewel

Went to Jewel tonight and did pretty good but it's the first time in a long time that I have bought ingredients just because I needed them so my total was higher than I wanted but still pretty good since I am done for the week. I am not going to bore you with my shopping list but I will give you the highlights.

2 Fresh Express Salads - 2/$4 - used 2 - $.55 coupons from the Jewel Preferred card booklet we got months ago and in the store there is a coupon for free bananas (up to 2 lbs) so my bananas were free too! Grab a few extra coupons because they are manufacturers coupons and you can use expired coupons at Dominick's so next time they have the salads cheap, you can get some bananas too!

Blueberries - BOGO at $3.99

I did only one deal tonight of the GM deal and I think I am done - I really don't need anything else - I have save up enough fruit snacks for the band trip and have enough here for my kids. I bought 6 fruit snacks ($11.94) and 3 cans of Progresso Soup (sale price $2.83 - preferred $1.33) so I did get my $5 cat and my $3.50 cat for the fruit snacks! I used 3 $1/2 coupons for the fruit snacks from www.bettycrocker.com and 1 $1.10/3 for the soup from www.coupons.com. So, I paid $11.83 and got back $8.50. That's an ok deal, not the greatest but I didn't really need the yogurt that would be free and those I can't donate to the food pantry. So, free is good but not if it will not be eaten in time! They did not have ANY Nutclusters though and I still have some $1.60 coupons from Vocal Point that I might just go and check another store for. These are good and with those coupons, they should be free after the double dip!

The Weight Watcher snacks are on sale for $2.50 and I used 4 - $1 IP coupons I printed on www.coupons.com.

I bought 2 gallons of milk which were $2.38 each and I used the free 1/2 gallon coupon I printed this morning (see previous post) so I got a free 1/2 gallon of Dean's Over the Moon chocolate milk!

There were lots of single yogurts and drinkable yogurts on clearance so check that out.

Other than that, really the other things were just basic produce, etc. I did buy all of the ingredients for the potatoes I am making tomorrow night - let me warn you, it is not an inexpensive dish to make! My friend Cindy told me they are really, really good though so they should be worth it. I'll let you know! :-)

Going to bed now - trying to get more than 4 or 5 hours of sleep tonight. It is catching up with me!

Happy Shopping!

Eat from the Pantry Challenge & Budgets.....

I am proud to say that I have been pretty good with keeping up with my Eat from the Pantry challenge! First, you have to realize that it is hard for me to stick to a "menu" - sometimes, things sound good when you write it out on Monday but by Friday, you do not want that anymore! :-) Second, you need to know that my life is one that changes moment to moment (like many of yours I am sure) - I will have something planned and then someone says they need to be dropped off somewhere, are going to their boyfriends, have to go into work early, or whatever. I might find a "deal" online that I need to run out to do and of course it takes me longer than I thought and then my meal planning is completely off!

Anyway, I did well last week with the menu with only a few changes. Saturday night was when I was going to make my "new" recipe, Three Cheese Noodle Bake - well, my morning turned out to be rushed running Alex to lessons and taking Amanda to donate blood which took longer than anticipated because she almost passed out! Thankfully I was back by then from dropping Alex off and she didn't have to be alone. I hate that, when something happens and I am not there! That mommy guilt kicks in full force! So, we only had about 15 minutes at home before having to run out again for Alex's basketball game. We all just snacked on crackers and cheese and a few other things and off we were again. So, there went my chili making in the morning - first planned meal completely out the window. We get back from the game (Alex played great by the way!) and are super hungry so we just dig into leftovers in the fridge - not a bad way to eat from the pantry at least they won't be thrown out like normal! Doug went off to work, Amanda went on a date with Dennis for dinner and Alex and I decided to run a couple of local errands (had to get my newspapers!). When we got back, neither of us were hungry so there goes the burgers and cheesy noodles! I will definitely make those this week because I bought the cheese already. I do really think that making up a menu helps though because I am thinking about it the night before or at least that morning to get stuff out and ready and I will be less likely to say "hey, it's Wednesday, let's just order a half price pizza!" :-)

Surprisingly we have no evening activities planned this week (I hope I didn't just jinx myself!) which is good because this week there are finals so there will be a lot of studying happening in our house. So, here is the menu for the week that the kids and I worked out:

Sunday: Pizza for dinner at my sister-in-laws for my nephew Ty's birthday
Monday:Cheesy Chicken & Rice, veggies
Tuesday:Steak & Creamy Rosemary potatoes - this is my "new" recipe for the week - if you want the recipe go to http://www.theperfectplate.blogspot.com/, veggies, rolls
Wednesday: Chicken & Pasta, garlic bread, salad
Thursday: Tacos, rice, beans, corn
Friday: Burgers with Three Cheese Noodle bake
Saturday: Lunch: frozen pizza & Dinner: Roasted chicken, potatoes, veggies, salad

Alright, since I started keeping track of my grocery/household spending with the Savings Tracker (post on 1/2/10 if you don't know what I am talking about), I decided I would keep track and make a budget for everything else. It is the beginning of a new year so it will be easier that way. So, I have literally tracked everything that we have spent in 2010 and have made a REAL budget. I am glad that I am blogging about it because I think it will make me more accountable for keeping it up! I have made different categories and put in an amount that I think will work. I may have to change a few since we have not kept track of things this way in the past, my numbers may be off. I looked into different ways people are doing their budgets, some on a computer program like Quicken, some with the envelope system, some just writing it down, etc. Well, I kind of like the envelope system where you put a certain amount in there and then when it's gone, it's gone but I don't like the cash part. We use our debit card for everything because we earn points. We earn 4 points for every $1 we spend and it adds up very quickly. We then can use those points to get gift cards (there are other things too but I get the gc's) to places like Target, American Eagle, Restaurants, etc. It's a nice way to be able to go out to eat or buy our needed items with the gift cards so I am going to continue to do that and keep track of what we spend and where it should be deducted from in the budget. Now, I just need to get my husband to remember to give me all of the receipts!

I hope you guys are doing whatever works for you to keep more money in your pocket! :-) Post a comment or email me and let me know what you are doing in this new year to keep track of your spending or if you are joining in on the Eat From the Pantry Challenge!

Redbox

Got an email update from Jane4Girls - http://www.jane4girls800dollarannualbudget.blogspot.com/ giving a free Redbox rental code!

It's RBXLUV10 and good until 11:59 Central time tomorrow, Monday 1/11/10.

Walgreens

If you can find the TRESemme product above, they are on clearance at Walgreens for $1.29 (my store was out!) and if you buy 3 of them, you will get a $5 RR - money maker!!

Also, some stores are reported to be ringing up BOGO Free instead of BOGO 50% off on some of the Aveeno and Clean & Clear products. There really is no way to tell until you ring up and then see if it takes off 50% or the total price. I can personally tell you that I went to 2 stores today and one rang up 50% and the other free! No clue what makes this happen but guess which store I will be returning to tomorrow?!?!?!? :-)

This will be a great way to get your products much cheaper and you can do the J&J rebate that you can print from www.coupons.com or find in the 1/10SS when you spend $30. After the rebate, they will be free or a money maker!

CVS 1/10-1/16

I was at CVS tonight (ok, I guess last night since it's almost 1am!) and was able to get their ad. Here is what I see that are some decent deals this week:

Buy 2 Pantene Shampoo, Conditioner or Stylers 2/$6.97 - get $2 ecb. Use the $3/2 coupon from the 12/27PG if you didn't use it at Jewel last week and after ecb they will only be $.99 each

CVS Cleaning Cloth Combo Pack - $3.99 - get $1.50 ecb. Use the $2/1 coupon from the CVS Reinventing Beauty Magazine and pay only $0.49! In case you don't know what the Reinventing Beauty mag is, it is a CVS magazine with lots of coupons in it and costs $.99. It comes out every 3 months, I believe. They are usually by the cosmetics or by the registers. Sometimes CVS will just put out the coupon part on the shelf by the cosmetics. I picked up a couple a few weeks ago - for free!

Extra gum is 3/$3.00 and you get $1 ecb. I picked up a few tearpad coupons at Walgreens by the refrigerated Coke bottles for $1 off when you buy Coke and Extra. Well, go to CVS.com and print up 3 (if you have more than 1 computer) $.50 off any individual Coke product. Since this is a CVS coupon, you can use it with the manufacturer coupon. Buy 3 Coke and 3 Extra gum and after coupons it will be under $2.00. I am basing this on the Coke being $1.49 each (this was the price the last time I bought it)

Buy a Green Tag and a Green Bag - $.99 each and you will get $1 ecb. Have them scan the tag each time you go and you will get $1 ecb after every fourth visit.

Neutrogena Cosmetics are BOGO 50% off. Use two $2/1 coupons from the 1/10SS

Roc products are $3 off. There is a $3/1 coupon in the 1/10SS and this is an item you can use for the Johnson & Johnson rebate from Coupons.com. You will only be able to print one.

Viologie and Fruitopia Shampoo or Conditioner are $2.50 each. There is a $2/1 coupon in the CVS Reinventing Beauty Magazine for each of them so you will be able to get both for $.50 each.

All Lubriderm Lotions $2 off. You can use the coupons from the 1/10SS or www.coupons.com and it qualifies for the J&J rebate.

Clean & Clear products are BOGO 50% off. Use the coupons from 1/10SS or www.coupons.com and it qualifies for the J&J rebate.

Walgreens also has the products for the J&J rebate on sale. If you are going there and are buying the Lubriderm lotion, use the coupon from the Diabetes and You magazine by the pharmacy. It will take off $1 for each of the Lubriderm products you buy. So, I guess it depends on if you have RR's or ecb's to use. I have both so I am going to do two rebates and send one to my friend Mike's house (he never does the rebates!). I usually don't do too many rebates but $10 ones get my attention since I can get the products for free after the rebate. :-)

Happy Shopping!

Happy Birthday & Walgreens

Today, my first baby turned 17!! I don't know how this has happened but somehow 17 years have flown by and now we have a wonderful young woman in our home! I can still remember sitting on the couch just holding her for hours - it never got old to look at her and be in complete awe in the incredible blessing that God gave us on January 7, 1993! We went to dinner at JuRin, this awesome restaurant here in town to celebrate. It was the four of us and Amanda's boyfriend Dennis - amazing that we are at that point in our lives too, where most times there are 5 of us around the dinner table or at an event. It's funny because Doug was the new one at our dinner table 25 years ago. :-) The food was delicious and it was very entertaining because they cook right in front of you. They brought out a beautiful dish with dessert and fruit and sang Happy Birthday. She was as embarrased as any other 17 year old would be. :-) We had a great time. I am not going to add this dinner to our food budget for the month because it was a birthday celebration, I will put it under our budget for gifts.

Happy Birthday Amanda! I love you with all of my heart!!

I also wanted to tell you that I went to Walgreens on my way to work today and sure enough, if you buy 4 - 24pk Aquafina water, you will get a $10 RR! My total was $16.24 including tax and I used my $6 RR so OOP was $10.24 and I got a $10 RR back. Yay!! I am going to go to another Walgreens and get some more for the band trip. I never want to clear any shelves!

Nabisco/Crystal Light

Here is a cat deal going on at Jewel:

Nabisco 100 Calorie Packs (1/1-1/24)

Buy 3 Get $1 OYNO
Buy 4 Get $2 OYNO
Buy 5 Get $3 OYNO

There is a coupon in 1/3 SS - save $2 when you buy 1 Crystal Light Drink Mix Product and 1 Nabisco 100 Calorie Packs. Buy the single pack of Crystal Light up by the registers! :-)

Jewel GM deal

The new cat deal at Jewel is from General Mills and goes through 1/14/10.
Buy $20 in participating GM products and get a $5.00 cat good OYNO (on your next order)plus 50 bonus Box Tops for Education. This is working on "sale" prices. Make sure to use the price scanner at your store because "sale" price varies from store to store a lot of times.

It is being reported that this deal stacks so that you can buy $40.00 worth of participating items in one transaction and get $10 back. I guess it only stacks two high so don't try to go $60 to get $15 because it won't work.

http://www.coupons.com/, http://www.bettycrocker.com/, http://www.eatbetteramerica.com/ and http://www.smartsource.com/ all have coupons that will work for this deal. Also, in last weeks inserts there was a GM insert with coupons for this deal so with all of those you should be able to get lots of stuff for very little $$ :-)

There is a triple dip for this deal! (I think! - it's for sure a double dip)
Nature Valley Nut Clusters - buy 5 - get $3.50 OYNO
Betty Crocker Fruit Snacks - buy 5 - get $3.50 OYNO - these are on big relief price cut for $1.99 so that is the price you must use towards your $20.00.

So, buy five Nature Valley Nut Clusters and five BC Fruit Snacks as part of your GM deal and you'll get an extra $3.50 back for Nature Valley & $3.50 for the fruit snacks. I am not sure if the cat deal is individual or if it's for both clusters/fruit snacks so you may only get 1 $3.50 cat. Still better but if you are not looking to buy the clusters, wait until I see if someone tries it (I might because I think I have higher value Vocal Point coupons for those). I will let you know what I find out - whether we get $8.50 or $12.00 back.
