Happy New Year!

I can't believe that in just over two hours it will be 2010! I am supposed to be at a party right now but unfortunately have a massive migraine and am just not up for it. So, I thought I would wish you all a Happy New Year and reflect a little on this past year and my life.

So much has happened this year that I have to be grateful for! First, of course being my family - I have such a loving, wonderful husband that is so very patient with all of my interests! Sometimes he gets put on the back burner due to my involvement at the schools, with the kids activities, stamping, baking, couponing (like when I sit at the computer for an entire day!), etc. and I just want him to know that I love him with all of my heart and know that it is because he is behind me, supporting me and chipping in where I need him to that I am able to do all of these things! He works really hard so that I can work part time and be able to do the other many things I like to do.
My kids, Amanda turned 16 and Alex turned 14 in 2009, while being typical teenagers, are really great kids. I know every mom thinks their kids are great but they are respectful, mindful of others and grateful for what we are able to provide them and ok with what we are not able to give them. Although I may have to remind them to do their chores, help with dinner, do their homework, etc. they are turning into young adults that I like! :-) They have great friends, true friends that I am grateful for. They love God first and they care about helping others and even still like hanging out with mom and dad!
I am close with my sister, brother, sister-in-law and their families. I have a lot of nieces and nephews and they are all so different. I love ALL of them so much and can't wait to see what they all turn out to be! Doug's mom and her hubby live close so we get to see them often. I have loved her since I was 16 - she has always been more like a mom and less like a mother-in-law. My parents and Doug's dad and his family are not close geographically but we stay close with them by phone, text and Internet. It's not always easy but it's important and it makes me happy that my kids will ask about and talk to their grandparents and have a good relationship with all of them.

I am grateful to have such good friends that I can call family. Doug and I have a group of friends for over 20 years. Although life is nuts so we don't get to see each other like we used to, we know that we are there for each other and love each other! I live in a neighborhood where I have so many close friends - there is never a time that I feel like I would not be able to reach out to someone or fear that someone wouldn't be there for my kids. We have our monthly Bunco night and get together on a week night just to catch up once in a while (usually at Jacqui's!). It really is a great place to live. I love my co-workers - we are friends not just co-workers. I am also lucky to have a great boss - she will be retiring in 2010 so that will stink but will be good for her!

I am grateful for this blog and for my friend Cindy that made me start doing it! :-) I can not believe how much money we have saved in 2009 and by doing this blog, it has kept me going and searching for new deals. Because of saving so much, we were able to take a couple of vacations and do things we could not have done otherwise. I am so happy to be able to share with you all of the deals out there so that you can save tons of money too! It makes me happy when I know you guys get excited about the deals too - I love hearing your feedback!

I truly am a blessed person and thank God everyday! May 2010 be one of yours and my greatest and most blessed years ever!

Happy New Year and Happy Shopping in 2010!!

Home Made Simple

Got an email from Home Made Simple - many of you may have gotten it also if you have signed up in the past. Go to this link and sign up for a coupon booklet. They usually have decent coupons in them. I have some pulled out to use on the Jewel cat deal going on right now.

http://www.startsampling.com/sm/100880/quickQuestion.iphtml?item=100880&source=

Meijer

I went to Meijer yesterday afternoon because when we bought the kids Wii Fit Plus and some games before Christmas to use Meijer Santa Bucks, I received three 5% off your groceries coupons. Well, you are able to use all of them together for 15% savings so I definitely wanted to do some grocery shopping there.

Here are some of the things I bought that were a good price at Meijer. These sales run through Saturday Jan. 2nd.

Dole salad - $1 - good price!

Chi-Chi's salsa - BOGO - coupons in 12/6SS

4 Freschetta pizza - $3.99 - used 4 tear pad coupons I got at Jewel

18 Hormel Chili - yes, I know that is a lot but it is on sale for $1.29 and I had 6 $2/3 coupons from 10/18SS plus the 15% brought it down to about $.50 a can so I stocked up! We use this to make chili cheese dip for lots of parties. :-)

Healthy Choice Fresh Mixers - these are on sale for $2.50 and I had some tearpad coupons for $1.50 making them $1.00 each then 15% off that. Doug likes to have these at work for when he is on nights, it's 3am, he hasn't eaten dinner and nothing is open. They are pretty tasty too.

2 International Delight coffee creamers - used the free coupons I got on Facebook for becoming a fan. They have some new flavors out (white chocolate mocha and caramel macchiato - the two that I get when I go to Starbucks for a $4 cup of coffee!) so I thought I would try them.

4 regular bags of Craisins and 4 6pk bags of Craisins - used the BOGO coupon from the Parade magazine a few weeks ago. These are great in a salad! Yum

1 box of Honey Corn Flakes - had a Meijer cat for $1 off of any cereal plus $2 cat from Jewel for Honey Corn Flakes. These were only $2.57 so it ended up being a MM.

3 Buitoni pastas - on sale for $2.50 ea and used three $1.50 coupons from http://www.target.com/. You may have to educate your cashier that yes, Meijer does take coupons with other stores logos on them as long as they are Manufacturer's coupons. I did - this was the second cashier I had to tell that to. The last guy went to customer service and check and lo and behold - I was right! Since I am sooooo careful about making sure I am couponing in the most legit way, I don't mind. I know I am not doing anything wrong!

I bought 2 gallons of milk and just looked at my receipt and saw that one of them was taken off as a FREE item. I did not have a coupon for this so I think it must be some deal they have going on and I didn't even realize it. I will have to check into that! I love free milk! Ok, I love free anything! :-)

I did get a few other things and my 15% discount was $17.69 which was off of my $117.94 total before coupons! Yay!

Happy Shopping!

ConAgra coupon booklet

Read this on Mashup Mom. Copy and paste this link into your browser: http://startsampling.com/sm/101044/captureAddress.iphtml?item=101044&source and sign up for a $17 ConAgra coupon booklet.
Jewel usually has a ConAgra cat deal at the beginning of the year so maybe we will get it in time! I did read about a Kraft cat deal at Jewel next week on Couponers Wanted last night but it was around 1:00am and I didn't have the energy to really read it so I will post info on it later.

Target/Jewel

I wanted to let you know that Target has all of their Christmas merchandise 75% off now. I went to both the regular Target and Super Target. They are both picked over but there are still lots of things that are a good deal.

I also got another 2 Archer Farms ham steaks for free using the $2 coupon on Target.com. While at Jewel last week, there was a sheet of coupons on a display of 2 liter Coke. It's a sheet that has $1 off of 4 2 liter bottles, $3 off any Hormel Cure 81 ham and a couple of others I can't think of right now. Target had small cut hams for around $5.00 so I picked up 3 of those.

Then I went to Jewel. I bought 3 of the 40 pack Tampax and 3 of the 20 pack Tampax Pearl. I used BOGO 3 coupons from last weeks P&G and got my $10.00 cat. I bought some other things we needed to get up to the $50.00 so that I could use my $5/$50 coupon which I put on top of my coupons and she scanned first with no problem. I plan to go tomorrow and do a couple more transactions and roll my cat so that my oop is very small.

One of the things I bought was the 32 oz. bag of Jewel cheese which is on sale for $5.99. It is on my Avenu for $1.50 off. I used that $1.50 IP coupon we printed a few weeks ago (look for yours if you haven't used it already). That's a really good price. Since I won't use all of this cheese at once or within the time needed once opened, I will freeze it in smaller bags and just take out what I need, when I need it.

On a totally different note, my friend Cindy and I went to go see the movie Blind Side tonight - it was a GREAT movie! If you haven't gone to see it, you really need to. We also went to Panera for dinner since both of us got gift cards at work from the Principal and Vice Principal at the school for Christmas. The new Mac 'n Cheese they have is amazing - try it, it's worth the calories! :-)

Happy Shopping!

Jewel P&G deal

Member a s b on Couponers Wanted (post #385) posted this information about how to read the prices at the price scanner at Jewel. I thought this was invaluable info so I have copied and pasted it here. ALL of the credit goes to her - this is the best explanation that I have read or that I could have even written. She is also the one who put the list together that I just posted about. Thank you a s b!!!

There's no difference between Jewel side, or Osco side, when it comes to prices when working deals.

For Jewel items, there's usually at least two prices given:
$x.xx REG
$x.xx Preferred Card

When the above happens, you use the REG price (a.k.a. shelf price)

And sometimes for Jewel items, there are three prices given:
$x.xx REG
$x.xx SALE
$x.xx PREFERRED CARD

When the above happens, you use the SALE price (which is NOT a PC price).

For Osco items, it is pretty common for there to be NO Preferred Card price for an item, so it will either be this:
$x.xx REG

Or it will be this:
$x.xx REG
$x.xx SALE

But we hope for it to be this:
$x.xx REG
$x.xx Preferred Card

Or even this:
$x.xx REG
$x.xx SALE
$x.xx PREFERRED CARD

In any case, no matter what's going on, you use the REG/shelf price, unless there's a SALE price (in which case you'd use that), but you don't use the Preferred Card price.

(And yes, there are certain unique situations where the Preferred Card price plays a role, but I'm trying to keep it simple here.)

Jewel P&G deal

I wanted to let you know that http://www.couponerswanted.com/ has a great list with all of the participating products! It is under Jewel/Osco deals only. Then click on the P&G Catalina deal 12/27- 1/6 $25/$10 PP list in the OP!! It is on page 46 - post #451. I warn you - it is a LONG list! I copied an pasted it on a Word document and it is 22 pages long, this is why I do not want to paste it on here. I will cut out what I will definitely not buy to shorten it and hopefully be able to print it on a few pages or send it to my phone so I can just access it in the store. If you have not signed up to be a member of Couponers Wanted (it's free to do so), you really should - it is a GREAT site for deals in this area!

***Oh, I read that Prea on Jill's site tried to stack this deal to see if it would work and it DID NOT STACK so do separate transactions or you will lose out. You will only get one $10 cat no matter how many deals you have in your transaction.***

***Another thing is that normally there is never any spread on any Osco side item. I have read numerous accounts of the Pantene and Crest has a price spread that is working. So, make sure to check your items at the price checker and see if there is a "sale" price. If there is, use that price to get to your $25, if it just shows a Preferred price, that is the price you would use. Yes, it is more confusing this way but if you want to use the "sale" prices, you must check!***

***If you want some more info on how these Jewel cat deals work using the "sale" price, please go to the post on 10/14/09 and read the last paragraph. I can not emphasize enough how if you do these deals against the ad, you can not go and complain to the Jewel employees. You are taking a RISK. If you are not willing to gamble and maybe have it not work from time to time, just do it according to the ad - getting to $25 using the Preferred prices.***

Coupons.com

http://www.coupons.com/ has some good coupons on there! They usually reload at the beginning of the month so go on there and print anything that you think you might use. A lot of them repeat from month to month but not always and sometimes with different $ values. Here are some that I see might be worth it:

Gold 'n Plump chicken - $.75
Luna Bars - buy 2 get 1 free - these are on sale right now at Jewel for $1 each
Special K cereal - $1/2 - good with the Jewel sale right now
Special K bars - $1/2 - good with the Jewel sale right now
Weight Watchers muffins & snacks - $1 coupon - I have $1.50 off these on my Jewel Avenu too so this would make it $2.50 off!
Nature's Bounty - $1 off - these are BOGO at Wags right now. Also BOGO at CVS plus get $3 ecb!

Walgreens

Ran to Walgreen's as soon as I read about this deal (I'm sorry but I accidentally closed the web page and it was on a blog that I had never seen before so I don't know who to credit for the info!).

Buy:
1 Bayer Contour blood glucose meter - $14.99 - upc - 3 0193 715101 9
1 Bayer Contour Breeze meter kit - $14.99 - upc - 3 0193 144001 0
Use two coupons from 10/25RP ($30 but they will adjust to $14.99 each)
so your oop will be just tax. There are two different RR deals going on with these so you will get two $5 RR's and a $3 RR for a separate deal when you buy 2 Bayer products. So, this comes out to be a $13 money maker!

I went and it didn't quite work out that way. I bought the right Breeze meter but the only blood glucose meter on the shelf had a free self check A1CNow meter attached to it and wrapped in plastic. The upc was not the same but I figured I would try it. It did ring up at $14.99 but did not generate the $5 RR therefore not generating the $3 RR because it must not have been one of the participating products. Usually the items that are on a cat or RR deal will not include any package that is a bonus size or has a bonus item attached but I thought I would try it.
So, I got them both for free (with the coupons) and I did get the $5 RR so it was still a $5 MM which is fine with me. I am going to send these to my dad who could use them! :-)

I also got 2 LaCross beauty tool products (tweezers) that were $9.99 each. They are BOGO so the register took off $9.99 and I had a BOGO coupon from the Dec. All You magazine (pg. 156). The value of the coupon is up to $7.00 so that is what they took off. I got both items ($20 value) for $3.00. Amanda and I were very happy!

Revlon products are also BOGO this week. There are $2.00 coupons in 12/13SS and there is a new January Walgreen's coupon book that has a $3.00 coupon in it. It should take off $6 because it's a Wag's coupon and they take off the amount for each product with only one coupon. You could get two $10 items for free using those coupons! My store did not have the coupon book out yet and I forgot to ask for it when I checked out. I will check back tomorrow to see if it's out yet. There are supposed to be good coupons in there so be sure to pick it up!

Target

**Edited**
Here is what worked:

--The Method hand soap were $2.54 each so I got 4 of them for $.54 each!
--I bought Oscar Mayer Deli Fresh lunch meat which were $2.79 each and used two $1 Target coupons (on their site) and one $1/2 mfg. coupon from 12/13SS
--Sobe Life Water - bought 10 for $10 and got $5 Target gift card. I have read that some people are finding peelies on their bottles for Buy 5 get 2 Free so if you do, you would get 12 for $10 and get the gift card. My store did not have these.
--Cuties Clementines - $4.99 - used $1 coupon from 12/6SS
--The Glad trash bags worked perfectly so $3.99 each
--If you received the Kashi coupons in the mail from Vocal Point, there were two $3.00 ones and several $1.50 ones. The cereal is on sale for $2.75 so I got 2 and it was a $.50 money maker. My family is not a fan of this cereal so I left the $1.50 coupons on the shelf for someone else to use and these two boxes will go to the food pantry.
--The 20 oz. package of Gold 'n Plump chicken is on sale for $3.49, which is a good price compared to the $5.99 normal price. I had my IP coupons (I posted about this coupon back in October when the coupon was on Coupons.com - just checked and it's on there again!) with me so I bought 4 of them and paid $2.74 each which is a great price! This is really good all natural chicken - no hormones or preservatives added.
--2 Archer Farms ham steak - printed $2 off AF ham on the Target site. These ended up being free!
--Nivea deal - I had 2 Nivea (11/1RP) coupons left that I did not use when Wags had that great deal a few weeks back (the Nivea lip products were all gone!) and they expire 12/31 so I wanted to use them. The lip care was $2.49 each (not great) but one coupon was for BOGO and then the other was for a free lotion when you bought 3 Nivea lip products. So, I would pay for 2 of the lip products and get everything for $4.98, which was good enough for me (I like the Nivea products). Well, there was a lotion that was a 25% bonus size and it had a peelie on it for a free lip product when you buy the lotion. Sweet! So, I got 2 of the lip products and the lotion for free and only paid for 1 lip product! Yay! Beware though, for some reason the lip product rang up $3.49 instead of $2.49 so make sure you watch the register.
--The Christmas stuff at our Target was pretty picked over - it's still at 50% off too - so I was only able to get a few things. I might go to the regular Target down the road tomorrow and check their stuff out.
Oh, one thing I did read about but forgot to check was that Aunt Jemima's french toast sticks had been on clearance for $.36 - check your store freezer just in case you can find some!
--

I have to run to Target in a bit and I figured I would tell you about a couple of things I have read about and have seen. I hope to make it to Jewel today too! I can’t believe I haven’t gone yet!

Glad Force Flex garbage bags. Use Target coupon from 12/6RP and the one from this link: http://bricks.coupons.com/Start.asp?tqnm=qcpaczo43854282&bt=vi&o=55549&c=CG&p=0IE94JTm and you will get them for $3.99. Not the cheapest for garbage bags but cheap for good ones! I am a garbage bag snob and only use Glad bags – I usually buy the regular ones but do like the Force Flex so when I can get them at a decent price, I do.

Remember the $2.00 Method coupons I told you about a few weeks ago? If you didn’t print it, you still can by going to www.methodhome.com and at the bottom of the page, click on the little gift package. My Target had the Holiday collection soaps on a clearance end cap for just over $2.00 when I was there the other day so this would be a great deal!

We went to our friend’s house the other night and played a game that I had not played before – Sequence. Well, if you know me, I kind of get obsessed with something when I really enjoy it (couponing for example!) and I wanted to go get the game because we really had a good time with it. We stopped at Target on our way home from Woodfield where we took Amanda clothes shopping for her birthday. It’s not until next week but with both Doug and I being home and next week going back to crazy normal with work and school, we thought we would do it early. It was an experience! NEVER go to Woodfield two days after Christmas – it was super crowded! She did get some good deals though! Anyway, we got the game at Target and I had to look at their Christmas clearance. It’s only 50% right now but there were some things that were a good price. I did notice that they had a ton of M&M’s, both Premium and regular on clearance and there are $1 coupons on the Target website so print those before you go! **Edit -- I just found a mfg. coupon in the 12/6RP for the Premium M&M's! I can't remember how much they were but they should be free or pretty close to free!** There are some other good coupons on there too. The Motts apple juice coupon and the Nancy’s appetizer coupon come to mind. The Christmas stuff should go down to 75% within a couple of days – I think the 31st at the latest is what I have read on other blogs from years past.

Happy Shopping!

Crocs

I received an email from Crocs (www.crocs.com) that their Outlet shoes are BOGO. I ended up buying 3 for Amanda and 1 for myself. Yeah, that's the way it always goes around here - it's a good thing we are about the same size so I can wear the tons of shoes I buy her! :-)
Anyway, I bought four summer sandals for $32 delivered! I put the four I wanted into the cart, which then showed that two of them were free. I put in code MYCOUP20 and it deducted an additional $9.00 then I put in code CROCSHOLIDAY and it deducted another $3.60! There is FREE SHIPPING through the month of December so I didn't even have to pay for shipping. GREAT DEAL!

--Nabisco snack crackers - 11/08SS, 12/13SS, also in the Holiday booklet that was out last month if you still have those. I think they expire on 12/31 but I used mine so I'm not 100% sure.

--Dole mixed berries - $3.99 - 11/1SS

--Hormel Chili - 2/$4 - 10/18SS
--Brooks chili beans - $1.39 - 10/4SS

Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas everyone! We have had a wonderful time here with our friends and family. Last night my sister and brother came over with their families and we had a great time. We had a wonderful dinner which included my ham and turkey that I bought for under $5! Lots of other goodies that were a great deal too! We ate and laughed and reminisced about our times together past and present. The kids all loved their gifts and we even decorated sugar cookies after opening gifts. It was a great night.

This morning for the first time in 16 years, Doug and I woke up before the kids and WE WOKE THEM UP! :-) We opened presents, which was a lot of fun and then friends of ours came over for breakfast like they have for the past 7-8 years. The only rule is you have to come in your jammies! :-) We had a great time together. Right now I am about to take out my other ham I bought at Jewel for a few dollars and take it over to my sister in laws. We will have lunch and open gifts and have fun like we always do. Alex is going to Disney World with them for a week. They will be leaving bright and early in the morning so he is just sleeping over there tonight.

I am so thankful to God to have blessed my life with such a loving, caring and close knit family and group of friends! I wish you the most Merriest and BLESSED Christmas with your family and friends. Have a wonderful day!

P&G insert this weekend!

Normally, there are no coupon inserts in the Sunday paper after a holiday but I received an email this morning from P&G saying that there will be a P&G insert this weekend. So, if you don't get a paper delivered you may want to run out for one or two.

Target

Went to Target to get a few things and they have a great deal on the Tinkerbell movie! It is on sale for $19.99 for the Blueray combo pack. What's good about this is that you don't have to have a Blueray player because this combo pack has a blueray copy as well as a regular DVD copy. Well, go to www.disneymovierewards.com and sign up if you are not a member yet. Then in the promo code box (on the right side) enter GIFT as the code and you will be directed to a $10 mfg. coupon for the blueray pack. Target also has a $5 coupon on their site. Go to www.target.com and at the bottom there is a link for grocery coupons - click on that. Then look under movies or holiday catalog and you will find a $5 coupon on any blueray movie. So, I bought my 4 year old niece a copy for $4.99!!! I also bought her the cutest Tinkerbell dress up set I found on the clearance endcap. Super cute gift, super cheap! Love it and I think she will too!

You can print 2 copies of the coupon on the Disney site by clicking the back button a few times. You can print 2 copies of the Target coupon per computer now. Some have reported trouble with printing the Target coupons. I also had trouble when they first changed it but now I can print them with no issues at all so keep trying! I guess it's a problem with IE. ??????

Happy Shopping!

Crazy, crazy week!

I am sorry that I have not updated the blog in several days! It has been a crazy week - good crazy but crazy! I have made 100's of sugar cookies this week. I taught a Holiday cookie class at the Parks & Rec on Thursday night so I started baking cookies on Monday. I had 10 people in the class (a few co-workers surprised me and had signed up and not told me - that was super sweet!) and they each decorated 10 cookies. So, with all those and my samples and the ones I made to be eaten in class, I have been baking my little heart out all week. I love it! The picture on top is a sample of what they decorated. It was so much fun! I can't wait to do my cake decorating and cupcake classes next year (which is just a couple of weeks away!)

This was also the week of parties! My work party was very fun at our boss' house - lots of laughs, good food and a great time! Fran (our boss) was SUPER generous and gave us a really cute countdown to Christmas snowman and a gift certificate to Applebee's, she's the best. She really liked the gift we all gave her too. We had two birthday celebrations at work and then last night we had our Bunco party here and had a great time! Best of all, I got the Giant Cupcake baking pan (it's the one you see on TV and they sell at Walgreen's). I really wanted that too so I am very excited! :-)

I finally finished my Christmas cards today and they will be mailed on Monday. Yay! I always stamp my own cards and this year I am SUPER late - I usually like to get them out no later than Dec. 1st but oh well, they should get to people before Christmas. :-)

So, now that all of this stuff is done and and I have two weeks off of work, I can get back to shopping! I have not even looked at the ads from Thursday yet or gone on any of the websites I go on everyday since Tuesday so I have no clue what is going on. I did peek at the Sunday paper my wonderful hubby got for me today but guess what?!?!? NO COUPONS!!! What in the world is up with that?! Usually after a holiday there are not any coupons but this is the weekend BEFORE the holiday so why no coupons? I don't know. I didn't look at the coupon schedule on Coupon Tom because I was expecting no coupons next weekend. So, if you haven't bought any extra papers, don't and save yourself a $1! Well, that's what happens when you are not on top of things I guess.

I am currently researching all of the sale stuff for this week and will be posting as I find things so keep checking back. Thanks for hanging in there with me during a very crazy week. I promise, I'll get some good deals on here very soon! :-)

Happy Shopping!

Jewel

I have only gotten to Jewel once since the deal started on Thursday! I plan to go today but wanted to let you know what I got on Sunday when I went. As far as the GM deal, I bought the Green Giant veggies so no big deal there (plan to do the soup today) but I did do the Cook's ham/Jennie O turkey breast deal they have going on! I bought a Cook's spiral ham which was $11.22 and there is a Jewel store coupon over by the Jennie O turkey breasts for a free one when you buy a Cook's ham. So, I of course picked one of the biggest ones there! Gotta get as much as you can for our hard earned money, right? :-) The turkey was $16.41. In Sunday's Tribune, there is a $9 Jewel coupon (they may have them at the store too) off of any ham! So, for $2.22 I got a ham and a turkey! Love it! I plan to get another 2 when I go later today.

Just a CVS reminder: Today is the last day to get your free tissue, bows and tags!

Happy Shopping!

Dairy coupons

Here are some great dairy coupons. FYI: the cheese coupon is for 2 lbs. of cheese so you can buy any cheese at all - it does not have to be 1 2 lb. package, it could be 4 1/2 lb. bags if you want.

I forgot to check to see if there were UNEXPIRED coupons in them! I was finishing up with the decorating and getting the house in order and I guess I was just in one of those tossing moods. So, after RR's, this cost $5.00. Great deal!

1 girls socks - $6.99
1 men's socks - $5.99
1 men's boxers - $8.79
Total - $11.77 after the $10.00 discount! Great deal. Go grab those practical gifts! :-)

Take care and please be careful driving out there! Stay warm!

As always, this deal is working off of the "sale" prices (not shelf, not Preferred). First, I must say that if you choose to do the deals this way, you are taking a risk of NOT getting the catalina coupons! If you don't get them, you CAN NOT complain to customer service. Although you are not doing anything wrong, it's the way Catalina and Jewel have set the deal up, you are going against the sales ad and you are doing this at your OWN risk. If it doesn't work out and you don't get your coupons, it could be that you got one item wrong (UPC not part of the deal) or you used the wrong price to reach your total or even that the Catalina system was down or the machine wasn't working (always make sure that the Catalina machine has a solid green light on). You can keep the items (that is what I do, as I took the risk) or you can return the items before you leave the store. If you take food out of the store, they can not return them to the shelves and throw them away. In my opinion, it is not fair for Jewel to lose money for a mistake that you may have made. If you work the deal on preferred prices and do not get your catalina coupons, then you can go to customer service for your coupons.Although the ads state that you have to spend $xx to get $xx on your next order it does not work that way. The way it is set up is that you must spend that amount in "sale" prices. Jewel has 3 prices on most items. They have the shelf price, the sale price and the preferred price. The price you want to use is the sale price. For example, let's say the GM Cereal is $4.29 shelf price but sale price is $3.99 and the preferred price is $2.50. The price you would use to get to the $15.00 is $3.99. So, you would need to buy 4 of them, which will cost you $10.00 (less any coupons) and you will get back a $5 catalina coupon! Let me stress that it is really important that you scan the items at the price checker - look for it in your store - to be sure of the SALE price. The sale price is the price that the item will ring up at before the preferred discount is taken. If you are willing to take a risk, you can do really well!

This deal should not stack - so ONLY buy $15 in sale prices to get your cat. If you buy $30, it will only print up one $5.00 catalina coupon.

Happy Shopping!

Target/Walgreen's

Ran out to Target to get some ribbon for the tree tonight and got a couple of great deals.

2 Cheez-It's and 3 Keebler Fudge Shoppe cookies - $10.00, used the $1 off 3 cookies and 2 $.75 Cheez-It's IP coupons I posted about yesterday so they were $7.50 and I received a $5 gift card. I plan to go back and get some more this week - I didn't have all my coupons with me - duh!

There is a really good deal with the Boogle game at Target. It is on sale for $12.00 and they are also running a promotion that when you buy any Hasbro game over $10.00 you will get a Hasbro card game for free. What makes this even better is that in yesterday's Daily Herald's USA Today, there is a $5.00 coupon for Boogle! I hope you didn't recycle your USA Today yet if you get it. So, for $7.90 total (inc. tax) I got a great gift for one of my nieces! :-)

If you have read my blog for a while, you know that my daughter takes a Propel to school every single day and so when it's cheap, I stock up! Well, I thought I stocked up enough when Jewel had them for $.47 a while back but apparently my kids have gone through them and she tells me she needs more. So, I have bought enough the last couple of weeks to get her through and have been hoping for a sale soon. Well, while we were at Target she saw a display on the side of an endcap and they had the 12 pack of Propel powder packets and asked if she could try them. They are on clearance for $2.96 a box. She says they taste just like the regular Propel bottles! Yay - I am going back to get more because now she can mix these into regular water bottles (which I try really hard not to spend much $$ on at all!) and instead of $.75-$1.00 per day, we will be at around $.30-$.35 per day - yay! The only thing that would make it better is if there were a coupon out there for them. I looked, there isn't. Don't buy them all, save some on the shelves for me, ok? :-)

We stopped at Walgreen's too but this is NOT such a great story! I did really well until the register!

2 Nestle Chocolate Chips - used Wags ad coupon - $1.99 and IP coupon for $1.00 from http://www.verybestbaking.com/ so $.99 each.

2 Chinet dinner plates - BOGO at $2.99 with Wags ad coupon. I used 2 $1.00 mfg coupons from 11/22SS. There have been blinkies out there too - I saw them at Jewel just the other day. I need paper plates like I need a hole in the head but for $.50 a pack - gotta get them!

2 100 count light sets - BOGO - $3.99

4 Kleenex - BOGO at $2.19 (comes off instantly) - used 4 $.75 IP coupons from http://www.kmart.com/. I don't know if these are still available so hopefully you printed them last week when I posted about it. $1.38 or $.35 per box!

3 12-pk of Diet Coke - used $1/2 coupon that I picked up at Jewel months ago. - $10.00 - get $2 RR

I bought a couple of other things - Amanda was with me so of course I always end up buying something I don't intend to buy. :-) My total was $20.97 so I give her 2 $8.00 RR's and 1 $2.00 RR - let me just say here that when I got to the register, NO ONE was behind me - at this point though there are about 4 people behind me and NOBODY else is open at another cash register - the photo guy wasn't even there! - That said, my total should have been $2.97 and she says, $9.87 and I swipe my debit card with the fleeting thought that I though it would be less than that. Hmmmm....... well I take my stuff out and look at the receipt in the car and see that there is 1 $8RR and 2 - two - $2 RR's! Ugh, she scanned the $2 one twice! I was so flustered by being a "pain" up at the register that I didn't stop to really pay attention and ended up losing $6.00!! There is no way that I could go back and say anything because they just throw the RR's in their envelope and she wouldn't be able to tell which were mine! Maybe I'll start putting my initials on them or something so that if this happens again, I can go back and say, "nope look, I gave you 2 $8 ones and 1 $2 one". Ugh, I am soooo mad at myself for letting that happen. Oh well, I guess I have done enough money makers at Wags to cover it. :-)

Speaking of money makers, the 4 day sale will be really good this week! They are going to give you $5 RR when you spend $25.00. This has to be after coupons and RR's so your oop will be $25.00 but I plan on buying things that will generate RR's, such as the Renu saline solution and the Wheat Thins and Triscuits, Triaminic strips, etc. This way, I can take my RR's over to Jewel and get groceries with them! LOVE IT!! When you go into Walgreen's, go over to the pharmacy, they have a Diabetes and You magazine that is free but has lots of coupons including a $1/2 coupon for Nabisco crackers. I will be stacking these with the $1/2 mfg. coupons from the Nabisco Holiday booklet that is on display at Jewel.

Happy Shopping!

Target

Target has some good deals this week. Here are a few that I have read about but haven't tried yet. I'm hoping to go in the morning.

Keebler/Sunshine snacks – buy 5 select snacks and get a $5 Target gift card.

Cheez-Its, Keebler Fudge Cookies, Keebler crackers - $2.00 each

On http://www.snackpicks.com/ (you must sign in) you can print $.75 coupons for Cheez-It’s. You can print 2 per computer so if you have access to more computers and are able to print 4 or 5, you could really do well buy buying 5 boxes of Cheez-It’s! With 4 coupons, they would be $.40 per box after gift card and with 5 coupons, they would be $.25 a box!

You can also find $1/2 coupons for Keebler Fudge Shop cookies and http://www.target.com/ has $1/3 for the cookies. With these 2 coupons, you could get 5 packages of cookies for $.60 each.

http://www.coupons.com/ has $1/2 coupons for Keebler Flipsides

Target has changed how they have their coupons on their website. You still go to the bottom of the page (http://www.target.com/) and click on grocery coupons but now they are using e-centives and so you are able to only print 2 of each coupon and there are also manufacturer coupons on there. You are NO LONGER able to access and print coupons at the Target Kiosks either. There is a good Kellogg’s cereal coupon on there too - $5/4 and it’s a mfg. coupon so print it and use wherever Kellogg’s is on sale.

There are also some valuable Target coupons on there for toys, tv’s, dvd’s and other electronics such as iPod’s, GPS system, etc.

The Glade deal is advertised this week! Buy 5 at $2.50 each and you will get a $5 Target gift card. There are coupons in the 11/1SS for a free refill pack when you buy an oil candle holder (love these) or buy 2 refills and get 1 free coupon. You could buy 1 holder and 4 refills and you should be able to use both coupons. The free refill will count as your first one for the buy 2 get one free coupon. I know for a fact that this is the way it runs at Jewel.

**It looks like the Target coupon is no longer on redplum.com - must have reached it's limit. You can still print the bricks coupon with the second link and it would be $1.12 a tub.**
I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter - $1.87 – go to http://coupons.redplum.com/offers/default.aspx?Id=Hip2Save&DefaultZipCode and print a $.75 Target coupon plus use this $.75 mfg. coupon: http://bricks.coupons.com/Start.asp?tqnm=qjvtdkb54136354&bt=vi&o=59607&c=IC&p=GUtxFLPv and pay $.37 a tub.

For you coffee drinkers, Starbucks coffee is $7.00 each. You will get a $5 Target gift card when you buy 3 packages. In the 10/18SS there is a $1.50 coupon or a $1.00 coupon on http://www.coupons.com/. If you have 3 of the $1.50 coupons, you would pay $3.83 each after the gift card. Plus it has been reported that on each bag there is a coupon for a FREE tall coffee at Starbucks.

Who says you can't entertain on a budget?

Anyone who says that you can't feed lots of people on a budget is just wrong! Actually, we don't follow a budget (we should but we don't!) - we just try to spend the least amount we can on whatever it is we buy. If you stock up and have things on hand that you got for free or dirt cheap, you can make a very nice meal for next to nothing.

Every Sunday after church Amanda's House Group (kids in our area) from the high school ministry at our church gather at one house (The Breen's who graciously allow all those teens in their house every Sunday!) and have lunch, discussions and then break into their small groups. Parents are asked to provide lunch one of the Sunday's of the year and the others, the leaders order pizza or something like that. There are somewhere between 30-35 that show up each week. The church will reimburse you for your costs if you turn in receipts but of course all of us are more than willing to provide lunch one Sunday a year!

Well, I just made 2 huge pans of pasta with chicken, 64 rolls & butter, 60 brownies, 72 cookies and enough soda and Crystal Light for everyone and it cost me just under $19.00!! This includes $7.50 for the soda and the foil pans for the pasta too! I used some chicken from the Fav 4 deal, the rolls I got free and they were in my freezer so I just had to defrost them and bake them, the butter was practically free too. I used the Bertolli Organic pasta sauce that I got for free (I did have to buy pasta - paid $1 a box too which I haven't done in over a year), the mozzarella cheese was free from the last Kraft deal, the brownies cost me $1.00 but the cookies were a MM so that washes out! :-) So all in all, the food cost me about $11.00, the drinks about $4.00 and the foil pans were just over $3.00! Anyone who knows me also knows that I am very generous when I feed people so there is plenty of chicken in the pasta too - no skimping when you are working with these prices! :-)

Have a great day and keep stocking up so that your wallet isn't hit big time when you entertain!

Jewel & Walgreen's again tonight plus Target

So, Amanda is gone overnight on a Student Council field trip and I didn't feel like cooking after cooking all day at work - yay - my month of cooking is over for the school year! Actually, it went very, very well - by far the least stressful time cooking since I started 4 years ago. It's not easy making sure you have enough food to feed 1050 teenage kids each day! Anyway, Alex, Doug and I went to Skippy's for some much needed greasy comfort food! After dinner, we went to Target and I cleaned up!

They have a good deal on Glade Holiday candles right now - $2.50 each but you get a $5 Target gift card when you buy 5. So, $10 less 2 $1.50/2 coupons from 11/1SS and I had a $2 coupon that I clipped from somewhere but have no idea where so now it's $5.00 after coupons. Well, after the gift card - FREE!

I also had received a Target booklet full of Target coupons in the mail a month or so ago. If you also received this, the coupons expire 12/7 so you need to use them in the next few days! Here is what I got using those and stacking with some manufacturer's coupons:

1 Febreze Luminary Starter - $13.09 & 1 Febreze refills - $4.99 -- I used a $1/2 Target coupon and $3.50 off the starter and $1 off refill mfg. coupons from 11/29P&G - $12.58

Scrubbing Bubbles mega shower foaming cleaner - $4.14 (yikes! but I needed it - it's the best!) - used $1/1 Target and $1/1 mfg. -11/1SS - coupons - $2.14

Lysol toilet bowl cleaner - $1.89 - used $1 Target coupon and $.40 mfg. coupon - 11/8SS - $.49

Stacy's Pita chips (yum!) - $3.00 - used $1 Target & $1 mfg -11/15SS - coupons - $1.00

True North snacks - $2.54 - used $1 Target and $1 mfg - 11/22SS - coupons - $.54

Uncle Ben's chicken rice - $1.92 - used $.50 Target & $1 mfg - 11/8RP - coupons - $.42

2 Sobe Lifewaters - $2.00 - used $.25 coupon - I had 2 but for some reason the cash register did not want to take the second one - ????? -$1.75

Dannon Activia drinkable yogurt - $1.99 - used $1 Target & $1 mfg - 11/1SS -coupons - $.01MM

2 Clean & Clear products (with free small sample bottles attached) - $7.40 - used 2 $2 IP coupons I told you about earlier - $5.40

2 Softsoap hand soap - $1 - used $1 Target coupon - Free

Then we stopped at Jewel on the way home to get some more meat. I picked up:
4 packages of Perdue Boneless Chicken Tenders - 3.28 lbs - $9.19
1 package of 2 pack Pub burgers - .65 lb - $1.95
3 packages of Perdue boneless skinless breasts - 3.61 lbs.- $10.10.

7.54 pounds of meat - $21.24 but after the $8.20 instant discount, I paid $13.14 - that comes out to $1.74 per lb of meat! Great price!

Back in February, I bought a small upright freezer at Jewel for $149.99 that had $150.00 worth of coupons that came with it. I didn't need the freezer so I gave it to my brother and his family and they were very thankful! :-) I have used several of the coupons at a BOGO sale to maximize the amount I get for each coupon but the end of the year is rapidly approaching and I figured since I will be busy for the next few weeks, I would just cash in the rest of them because the chances of those items going on a BOGO sale in the next 3 weeks is not great - maybe a couple of items but I don't want to let them expire! I have been able to get $86.42 worth of groceries with the coupons that I have used before. Tonight, I used 16 coupons and only 1 item was BOGO. I got $94.65 worth of groceries using those coupons tonight. So, all in all, I have gotten $181.07 worth of groceries for $150 and was able to make my brother happy too by giving them the freezer! :-) Jewel does this every year around February so keep an eye out if you need a freezer - you just have to be patient and save those coupons for a BOGO sale! I may do this again next year - hmmmm.........who needs a freezer?????????? Maybe I could donate it to one of the schools or the food pantry (then I could use it as a tax deduction too) - I guess we shall see.

Final stop - Walgreen's. Picked up 2 more Complete saline solutions - these NEVER are super cheap so I am stocking up! With all four of us in contacts, we go through it like crazy. We got 4 2 ltr. bottles of Diet Coke for work and also got a couple of the Goody ponytail holders as part of my nieces (I have a lot of them!) Christmas gifts. Shhhhh..... don't tell them if you know them! :-) Used our last 2 Complete solution $1 coupons. We did 2 separate transactions - we paid $24.86 after sales tax ($15.12 and $9.74) and got back $22.00 in RR's! Next week's Wags deals are going to be really good! Especially the 4 day one - they will have the double pack of Renu Saline solution for free - well it will be a MM with coupons! I will write the post up this weekend. CVS looks pretty good too.

So, again it's been a good shopping day! I hope you have a great weekend - try to keep warm!

Happy Shopping!

I read about a free Redbox code - GANTS9 - we just tried it at the Redbox at Jewel and it worked fine. No idea how long it will work but give it a shot!

Here are some good value IP (Internet Printable) coupons for you.

Clean & Clear $2 off any Clean & Clear product - http://bricks.coupons.com/Start.asp?tqnm=qkphelc17196345&bt=vi&o=55829&c=CC&p=8VLDn20o Coupon prints at top of page.

Great time at Walgreen's & Jewel tonight!

I ran out to Walgreen's & Jewel tonight to get a few things. First at Wags, I wanted to get some of the free items that I would make money makers! Here's what I picked up:
1 pack of Dentek floss picks - $1.99 and used the coupon from 10/11SS and made it a $.51 MM after the $2.00 RR.
2 Diet Coke, 1 Coke, 1 Sprite 2 ltrs. - 4/$5 - received $2 RR
1 Goody headband - $2.00 - received $2 RR - FREE
1 Complete saline solution - $7.99 - used $1 coupon from 10/25RP - $1.01 MM after the $8 RR
2 Biore pore cleaning strips - $7.49 each - they are on sale Buy One get One 50% off so the register deducted $3.75 and I used 2 - $1 coupons from 10/11SS so $9.23 -- not the best deal but we needed them.

I went to the other Walgreen's in town to see if they had any of the Biore clearance items that the first Wags did not have. Well - Jackpot! They had the Biore Skin Preservation items on clearance for $3.79!! They are also part of the buy one get one 50% off and there are $3.00 coupons in the 10/11SS. I had 4 of them so I picked up 4 products for $15.16 - then the register took off $3.80 for the 50% sale so we are at $11.36 and then it took off the $12.00 for the coupons sooooo $.64 money maker!!! These products were around $13-$15 each!
I also picked up another headband and in order to use 3 of my RR's, I added a couple of Christmas chocolates ($.29 ea) as fillers. In case you don't know, at Walgreen's, you have to have an item for each coupon you are using. Well, at the end of her taking off the Biore coupons, I was only able to use 2 of my RR's and I owed $1.55 and got back the $2 RR for the headband!

I ran across the street to Jewel to see what meat they had in their cases for the Fav 4 deal. I wasn't expecting much because it was around 7pm on the first day of the sale. Well I was pleasantly surprised - they were fully stocked. I picked up 3 packages of Jewel America's cut pork chops 1-5oz. (4 in each pkg), 3 packages of Perdue boneless skinless breasts, 6 packages of pub burgers (2 in each pkg). So the breakdown is this: $35.92 less $12.30 (3-$4.10 discounts) = $23.62 which breaks down to $1.81 per lb! Anytime you can get meat - especially GOOD meat for under $2.00/lb it's a great price! I also used $10.00 in Walgreen's RR's so that brought my oop way down! I LOVE JEWEL! :-)

Good luck this week - I hope you find some low priced meat packages! I plan on stopping in several times and fill my freezer with cheap meat to last me through the next few expensive months! After our vacation last week, Christmas gifts this month, Alex's trip to Disney after Christmas and Amanda's and my trip to Disney in February - I could use some stocking up that we can live off of for a few months! :-)

Other Jewel deals

I wanted to do a separate post for the Fav 4 at Jewel (see below) so that it doesn't get lost in the blog but here is the rest of what I see that will be worth a trip to Jewel.

According to someone on Couponers Wanted, Gillette Shaving cream is on sale for $1.00 through 12/25. There is a $1.00 coupon in the 11/29 P&G insert on any shaving prep product so free shaving cream. Even if it not one that you or anyone in your family would buy, get as many as you have coupons for and donate them to the food pantry - they usually don't get enough toiletries!

3 day sale

Blueberries - $1.88
Jewel Sugar - $1.88
7-Up, RC, Dr Pepper, Sunkist 12-packs or 6-pack bottles 7-up or Canfields Seltzer, 4/$8 when you buy 4. Limit 8
Filet mignon or salmon portions - 2/$7.00
Home Run Inn 12″ sausage, cheese, pepperoni classic pizza - $4.77

Sale through 12/9

GM cereal $1.50 each when you buy 4. Use $1/2 at http://www.coupons.com/, 10/25SS, 11/1SS, 11/8SS, 11/15 GM or $1.00/3 11/22SS

Jewel White or Wheat bread - $.77

Buy 2 Campbell’s tomato soup at $.79 each + Kraft Cheese Singles at $2.49 and get a free Redbox rental. There’s $1.00/2 singles in the 11/15 RP. Not the greatest price but better than full price and Kraft Singles are one of those things we are loyal to.

Del Monte fruit naturals - 10/$10.00. Use $1.00/3 printable at http://www.fruitundressed.com/offers/

3lb baby red potatoes - $1.99

Jewel English muffins - $1.00

Keebler Wheatables, Toasteds, All-bran - $2.29. Use $1.50/1 coupon at http://www.coupons.com/

Betty Crocker fruit snacks - $.89 each when you buy 4

Yoplait yogurt cups - 10/$5.00. Use $.40/6 10/18 SS. Use coupon at http://www.smartsource.com/

Coffee-mate flavored creamers - 2/$4.00. Use the $1 coupon at http://www.coffee-mate.com/Coupons.aspx and $1.00/2 from Jewel preferred card update booklet

Dean's Over the Moon Milk - 2/$5.00

The buy 10, save $2.00 - which makes it $.80 each is really no big deal because these are items that usually are part of the ConAgra cat deals and would be much cheaper but if you need any of those items, it's a good time to buy them.

Happy Shopping!

Fav 4 at Jewel!

Yay! Fav 4 is back!! It goes through 12/9/09 so keep checking your store for the best priced packages of meat! If you don’t know why I am excited, I will give you a little rundown of how this deal works. Well, of course there is a chance that they change the deal and it doesn’t work but Doug went this morning and got some burgers and sure enough – $4.10 came off so it’s working! :-)

It’s advertised as 4 packages of meat for $19.99 – you buy 4 and you get an instant $4.10 savings after the 4th package is rung up. Well, if you buy the smaller packs of the same type of meat that are in the deal, the savings comes off. Anything that is in the Fav 4 case or has a Fav 4 sticker will be priced higher so look for those same meats (same UPC code) but in smaller packages and the $4.10 will be deducted. If you buy 8 packages, another $4.10 will come off and so on and so on……….

You know I always have some type of warning with any deal you are working not the advertised way!

First, if the discount doesn’t come off, either just take them or just have them take the meat off your order right then and there. I usually go through the self check with the meat because there are no coupons and I can see the discount right away.

Second, I have read about people going to the butcher and asking them to wrap individual burgers, steaks, etc. Please do not do this! This is really NOT an ethical way of working the deal and we don’t want them to change the way it works. You are getting a good price working the deal by buying the smaller packages so don’t “push” it to get your meat even cheaper – it’s cheating.

You will find smaller packages of meat, I promise. Your best bet is to go early in the morning or late at night but really, I have found them at all times of the day. Doug just bought 4 packages of Pub burgers – each had 2 burgers in them and were priced at $2.85 each (weird that they had 4 exactly the same!) so they were $11.40, less the $4.10 discount = $7.30 for 8 burgers ($.91 per burger or about $1.85/lb). These are nice thick GOOD burgers. I freeze them with 2 in each bag, that way if I want burgers, I grab a couple of packs or if I want to chop it up and cook it as ground beef for tacos or spaghetti, I can just grab one pack. It works out great!
