Wow, I guess I did kind of desert my blog and I apologize! The month of May was just insane with, staff appreciation at the middle school, Amanda's Prom, end of the school year PTO stuff - it was my last year as PTO co-president, Alex graduated 8th grade! and the big 8th grade dance which was a hit thanks to the hard work of a lot of moms and dads. I think there was about 5 days in the entire month that there was not something on the calendar! I was getting ready for a big party and our vacation so May was just nutty! So far this month has been busy - not crazy busy - fun busy.
June 2nd, Doug and I celebrated our 20th wedding anniversary - well, we actually celebrated on June 4th. We had a party at my sister's house with lots of family and friends - some that were there 20 years ago at our wedding and some that we have become close with over the past 20 years. There is a funny story about our wedding and this was the reason that we had the party - it was actually the first time that we officially said our vows to each other. A few days before our wedding, our Pastor told us that he was not able to officiate our wedding and that he would have someone else there for us. When the time came in the ceremony for the vows, the Pastor started them but thought he made a mistake and so he went on to something else and never came back to that part. We did not notice until my mother-in-law told us after we got home from our honeymoon. She was the only one that noticed and did not want to interrupt the wedding. So, fast forward 20 years, two houses, two kids and a whole lot of cherished memories and we said our vows to each other for the first time. We also "renewed" our commitment to each other by saying new vows to each other too. My brother Rick is in college studying to become a Pastor (he will graduate next May) and he officiated the vow ceremony. It was beautiful and it meant a lot to us that he was the one to "marry" us this time! Mike and Cindy (brother-in-law and sister) went above and beyond to make our party so wonderful! Mike built a trellis that Rick, Doug, the kids and I stood under and they set up the yard to look amazing! There were lights and special touches everywhere. My sister flew my mom in from Puerto Rico as a surprise for me which was GREAT!!!
We then set off on a family second honeymoon to Disney World. We took off the very next morning (ok, later that morning since we didn't get home until about 1:30am) - we packed up the car and started driving. We stayed at Doug's dad's house in Kentucky and had a quick visit then took off the next morning arriving in Orlando at around 11:30 on Sunday night. We stayed for 7 days in a rental house and had an amazing time! It was very hot but it was nice to be able to eat breakfast before heading out to the parks, come back after lunch and swim or take a nap and then head back to the parks after it cooled down a bit. The area we stayed at was a 10 minute drive to the parks and well worth having so much room! It was a nice 4 bedroom house with a pool, fully equipped kitchen, washer/dryer, TV with cable in every room, etc. I love staying on Disney property but let me tell you, driving around to the parks yourself is so much faster than Disney transportation and to have a house to come back to instead of a room with 2 beds and 1 TV was soooo nice! Well worth the 10 minute drive - actually Disney transportation always took longer to get back to our hotel so I think this is the way we will always do it from now on. We spent our last day in the parks and then drove into Georgia where we stayed in a hotel then the next day drove back to the in laws and had a great time. The kids built a fire, we sat around and talked for hours catching up. We got back on Tuesday night so we were gone for almost 11 days and of course there was a ton to catch up on and I had a cake decorating birthday party for 14 girls (ages 6-7) on Saturday to get ready for. My mom stayed with us until Sunday when she went back to Puerto Rico so we were able to have some time together and she helped me around here which was really nice.
So, the last couple of days, I have been trying to catch up on coupon stuff! There is a lot I have missed but I am not dwelling on that, I am looking forward! :-)
