Jewel

Ok, here is (the first of many I am sure) long awaited Jewel post! First, let me tell you that this post is LONG! Second, this sale runs through next week too so we have plenty of time on this one to go back and find something if it's not on the shelf. Second, this can be a VERY confusing week at Jewel. There are several Catalina deals going on so make lists!

Those of you that I have been emailing on a regular basis, know how these catalina deals work at Jewel. I am going to explain them here so that everyone who is new to this understands.

I must first state that if you choose to do the deals this way, you are taking a risk of NOT getting the catalina coupons! If you don't get them, you CAN NOT complain to customer service. Although you are not doing anything wrong, it's the way Catalina and Jewel have set the deal up, you are going against the sales ad and you are doing this at your OWN risk. If it doesn't work out and you don't get your coupons, it could be that you got one item wrong (UPC not part of the deal) or you used the wrong price to reach your total or even that the Catalina system was down or the machine wasn't working (always make sure that the Catalina machine has a solid green light on). You can keep the items (that is what I do, as I took the risk) or you can return the items before you leave the store. If you take food out of the store, they can not return them to the shelves and throw them away. In my opinion, it is not fair for Jewel to lose money for a mistake that you may have made. If you work the deal on preferred prices and do not get your catalina coupons, then you can go to customer service for your coupons.

Although the ads state that you have to spend $xx to get $xx on your next order it does not work that way. The way it is set up is that you must spend that amount in "sale" prices. Jewel has 3 prices on most items. They have the shelf price, the sale price and the preferred price. The price you want to use is the sale price. For example, the All Laundry detergent right now is $6.49 shelf price but is on a price cut for $5.49 and a preferred price of $3.50. The price you would use to get to the $30 is $5.49. So, you would need to buy 6 of them, which will cost you $21.00 (less any coupons) and you will get back $15 (3 - $5 catalina coupons)! Let me stress that it is really important that you scan the items at the price checker - look for it in your store - to be sure of the SALE price. The sale price is the price that the item will ring up at before the preferred discount is taken.

The Unilever/Betty Crocker/GM - Buy $30 get $15 on your next order (goes to 8/12):

Here is the spreadsheet of items included. Make sure you have the right UPC on what you are buying. There have been reports of trouble with some of the All laundry detergent because there are a few on clearance so make sure you scan your items to be sure of the "sale" price. http://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key=tQxXm0uMiHSZzfd3l-i9-jQ&output=html

Today I purchased 6 All Laundry detergent (he) - 3.50 preferred price = 21.00 less 5- $1 coupons - 8/2RP - so $16 oop (out of pocket) and got $15 in cats! (the sale price total was 32.94)

5 Breyers ice cream - 6.50 sale price/3.00 preferred price so 32.50 sale price qualifies me for the $30 but my preferred is $15.00 less 2.50 in coupons that I had printed weeks ago and I got the $15 cats! So on this one, it's actually a money maker! Well, when I checked out, not only did I get my cats, I also got a cat coupon for $4 off my next purchase of 5 Klondike/Breyer/Popsicle purchase. So, I can buy another 5 Breyers and use the $4 coupon and make money again! Of course, when I say money maker this is after the $15 cats you will receive.

Normally on these deals, you can only do one $30 transaction at a time. I had read that it was working if you did 2 or 3 so I decided to try it. I wouldn't do 3 just in case something happened but I tried 2 (I figured I have saved so much over the months that it would be ok). Well, it worked! I did both my All detergent and the Breyers together and received $30 in catalinas! Don't do this if you are not willing to take the risk! :-)

There are so many other ways that this deal works too. There are hundreds of items and so many coupons out there! Go on coupons.com, smartsource.com, bettycrocker.com and you will find many. This past weeks inserts were loaded with them too. You can mix and match to get to the $30 - you do not have to buy all of the same items. I do mostly to keep things straight and if it is something that I will use. If not, I will mix and match. I will post all of my deals in the next couple of weeks to give you plenty of ideas! During these deals, I find myself at Jewel pretty much everyday (I just can NOT stay away - see I am addicted!) so there will be plenty of scenarios. :-)

Some things that I have heard are definitely working but have not tried myself are the Bertolli pasta sauces, Chex Mix, Honey Nut Cheerios (buy 10 of these for 15.25 and get $15 back! - check prices at your store), Lipton sides, Macaroni Grill meals, Klondike bars. Let me know what works for you and I will post it here.

The Dove/Suave/Vaseline buy $10/save $3 - buy $20/save$7 - buy $30/save $12 goes through 8/5. It has been reported that the Dove shampoo/conditioner, Vaseline lotion and Q-tips are double dipping! This means they are part of 2 deals and you will get both sets of cats! Unfortunately my store was out of Q-tips so I didn't try it. I have so much lotion and hair care products that I didn't want to risk it not working out. I am going to another store tomorrow to see if they have the Q-tips. We'll see...........

Now, these items are on the Osco side and when you buy things from the Osco side, you have to use the Preferred prices! It will not work with the shelf or sale price of the items. Now, to make it all a little more confusing - SOME - of the items are working on the sale price! I know that the Q-tips are and that's why I am going for those but it has been reported that the Dove shampoo and conditioner are too.

Johnson & Johnson products - buy $15 get $5 catalina coupon goes through 8/5. This deal will also work on the preferred prices since the items are on the Osco side.

Procter & Gamble - spend $20 get $5 catalina on your next purchase -through 8/12. This deal will work on the "sale" prices for the Jewel items and the preferred prices for the Osco items. For example you could buy 1 Tide (15.99 sale price) ($1 coupon in 8/2 PG) and one Bounty napkins (4.25 sale price) (.25 coupon in 8/2PG). You will pay 10.99+3.00 less 1.25 in coupons so $12.74 oop and get back $5. Of course, check your sale prices for your store! Last time they had this deal, my store's price for the Tide was $14.99 and not $15.99 like some others.

I also bought 10 Pop Tarts which is this weeks Jewel special and cost 1.50 each but are only $1 when you buy in quantities of 5. I used 5 coupons from 8/2 Fuel for School insert. I paid $5.13 after tax and will turn in the Fuel for School rebate for $10. I don't do rebates too often but this is worth it! I have done one in my mother in laws name so now I have to do this one in Doug's name! I'm running out of people!!! lol I was also able to use 2 Bic coupons (from coupons.com) and get 4 packs of pens free. Since my pre-coupon total was over $100, I used my free gallon of milk coupon (I hope you guys printed those last week!) and also my free 1/2 gallon of Chocolate milk coupon! Free Dean's Over the Moon milk - yay! I got some produce, cheese, some gift sets (on clearance in Osco) and after my coupons and $40 in previous cats, my total was $38.11 ($29 were the gift sets!) and I received $30 in cats to continue rolling into more deals! So, my shopping trip at Jewel went very well today!

Happy Shopping!
